| Just have to find a band that big to use. Any ideas where to get one? She is so beautiful and loved her hair when it was done - sort of reminded me of the hair styles from the 40's. Too, loved the accent!! Growing mine out and almost shoulder length. Have really fine, thin hair and nothing seems to keep curls all day - rollers/curling iron. For sure will give this a try. What a cool (and easy) method! I too have very fine hair that doesn't like holding curls, but I'll have to give this a try.

That is how I had my hair done for my wedding. They have been doing this for a long time at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. They sell special rings for it. It's basically some wire you can get that is coated from like home depot, and then the ones they sell at the amusement park have fabric sewed on top (like a sleeve) of the wire. The wire is rather thick. Any way, you can actually leave your hair up like that for quite a while and it will be pretty as well. Here's a pic of mine on my wedding day-

Elizabeth you should try it. there is nothing (curling irons, perms etc) that will make my hair hold a curl, but if I keep my hair damp, with say a mister or such as I do this, and then let it dry. (wear it a day or so) It will be curly when I let it down! You can keep your hair up like this for a while as well, just shower your head with water, and baking soda if you want to leave it up and "wash" it.

| Heather, where did you buy the elastic bands? Wonder if you can buy them on-line. Would love to try this. Will have to check out the "hair" department of Target or Wallmart and see if they have something one could use. |

Well I did it last night- it was very comfortable to sleep in using the head band. I used a head band that I bought at Wal-Mart for about $2. I just super stretched it out before hand to make sure it wouldn't hurt. I actually did mine a little too tightly so this morning I had cork screw curls. I then just got my fingers wet and ran them through my hair. I then re-wound my hair and let it sit for about an hour. I took out the band and viola!! Perfect curls!! It was awesome! I am in love with this method!!

I bought mine from a amusement park in Branson, Mo called Silver Dollar City. Mine is not a head band like in the video though. It's a wire (from a home improvement type store) that has fabric sewn on top. It's meant to be left in for quite a while actually. It is comfortable to sleep in as well. I can't think of what they call it at the amusement park though, they sell different sized rings for this though. It's a thick wire that is coated in a plastic/rubber, and then with a little sleeve sewn on top. Scroll down and you will see a girl with a blue one on. Her's is also done better then mine for my wedding, as my mom did mine for my wedding and she had never done it before. At SDC they sell the rings and the videos, however, like I said, when they first came out (about 20 years ago) they told us how to make them with stuff from the home improvement store. I like the wire with the fabric a bit better then the stretchy head band as it will stay in your hair in place I think a bit better and longer and isn't stretchy so shouldn't move at all.

yes it is specifically to make the up do, but also makes the same curls in the end, you also do the same techniques. Why I brought it in to the mix is it's easy to make yourself (it's probably also about 2 dollars to make (they only charge 6 dollars at the amusement park for it already done) all you need is the wire and then you can cover it with a scrap of fabric) any way I wanted to put it out there for in case some one wanted to have the up do they can leave in for a while if they want and also get the end result of the curls when ever they decide to take it down.

| OhMY! After years of short hair, I've been inspired by MaryJane and others to grow it out. My last short haircut happened before Christmas '10 and I'm struggling with it a bit now. Love it, hate it! BUT...this hairstyle absolute seals it! Worn up in the setting mode, worn down and curly with all sorts of variations... I LOVE IT! I'm GROWIN' my hair out! |

Ok I gave it a try. My hair is thin and straight but I have a lot of it. My scalp is also extremely sensitive. I can't even think about putting curlers into it. It's down to the middle of my back and weighs too much to put it in a regular pony tail. I bought some stretchy headbands for $2.38. On reflection this would be easy to make yourself cutting a piece of leg off a pantyhose or part of a sleeve from an old t-shirt. I actually like sleeping with it like this. A lot cooler.

Beautiful!! I wore my hair down after having it up and got all sorts of compliments at work.
Heather- I love the idea of having a more sturdy version for the updo- I think I need to make one so I can do the princess style! :)

I wish I could think of the exact name of the wire they use. Cause I know it stays in place great, and is really easy to make. My mom made a bunch of them about 20 years ago when Silver Dollar City first started selling them. You can also make them in little girl sizes.
