It's about that time ladies: county and state fair time! Will you be entering anything? Maybe you make the best raspberry preserves or sour dill pickles. Do you have a beautiful quilt ot knitting project you are going to be showing off? How about your animals? Will you be showing you chickens, your rabbits, maybe even a cow?
I can't wait to bring Rosemary this year! I always leave inspired!

I can't wait for the fair either, but I'm glad it's a couple of months away! lol I wouldn't be able to make it to the fair this month or next with our heat out here! lol haha

Nini and Connie, I'm with you guys! Wisconsin State Fair has some of my favorite foods: fresh donuts, cream puffs, and one of the best grilled cheeses I have ever had... Ugh, my stomach is grumbling just thinking of it!

We have our local fair here in Wayne County, PA. It is small but a lot of fun. I was thinking about entering "something" but I have never even considered it before---I have not one clue about it??? I thought you had to be part of a group or something to enter---shows how many fairs I went to growing up in Brooklyn, NY :0). I think I will stop by the local chamber to pick up the fair "book" with applications and deadlines!
The larger fair in Bloomsberg is just too far and costly for us this year :0(. With 5 of us being home to go entrance fees add up pretty quickly! I am sure we will find mad fun at the local level! Hope you Sisters will post pics of entries!

I'll be entering some knitting, photos, a little baking and some antique items in our local fair here in PA - plus boyfriend and I will be working all 7 days of the fair making homemade ice cream with his 102 year old hit & miss farm engine. It's a ton of work, but we really enjoy it. Can't believe that time is almost here already!

OMG - Funnel Cakes, Fried Indian Taco's, Pineapple Lemonade, - my body is screaming. It has been five years since I ate that food - I think my body would fall over in one big heap. I guess I will keep them a memory and not act on it...
I have also not entered anything in the fair for so long - I also putting on the open contests for many years - tons of work but tons of fun.
Enjoy ladies I will wait on the sidelines but I hope you share you experience with us here..

Hey Donna -
We set up and show antique farm equipment and make the ice cream at the Greene Dreher Sterling Fair in Newfoundland. It starts August 30 and ends on Labor Day. Please stop by and say hello if you happen to come down to the fair! The first four days I won't be there until about 4:00 p.m. Saturday - Monday I will be there all day and all evening. Nini they are to die for - really eat those too much and you will die. It starts with a indian fry bread that is similar to a sopaipillas that is fried in grease. Then there is refried beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese and then add as much or little hot chilies.. I filles you for the whole day and I think takes days to diegest...
It is a weakness and I have made them at home for large crowds when teaching in the summer.

Oh, my.... I have never seen those before! I'll look this year, for sure! They do sound "to DIE for!" LOL!!! I bet they're worth the risk, just once, though! ;) Yum! My hubby isn't getting any, though, if I find them... If they don't kill me, his bodily functions surely will! LOL!!! <Ohhhh...I'm so bad!>

We are taking our Gypsy Horses to the OK State Fair. We rarely see anything but the barns! But a group of us gather together and talk horses, while drinking beer in the heat, so that is fun!
Our fairs in Oklahoma have Fried Anything on a stick! Fried Oreos has been a big one; last year they were talking about Fried Butter!?!

I noticed our town's "riverfest" had indian tacos this year and with just refried beans (no meat) on them too. Hmm, that is not usual for around here, usually at the "indian" center, they have meat on them! I wasn't willing to pay 10 dollars for no meat though! When I can get one at the Center (and support the local indian center at the same time) for about 5 bucks with MEAT! lol I personally love indian tacos. If you don't have them in your area, a few years ago when I was living in NYC and went to Cheesecake Factory for the first time they had them on their sandwich menu. They make them pretty good, and the bread is VERY authentic and very good in my opinion-the avocado really was great on them there, they don't normally put them on indian tacos around here. As fry bread is not really a native food for Native American's but rather a food developed after their land was taken away and they were put on rations from the government. It is basically only water and flour mixed together and fried. My grandmother never knew about "baked" bread till moving here to Kansas. She had only had corn bread, and fry bread up to that point. She was 40 when she moved here to the big city! (Wichita, Kansas). lol Any way point is I'm sure the gov didn't supply avocados with the rations, lol so it is not authentic to most indian tacos you will get in the southwest or midwest, but it was a great addition I thought at Cheesecake Factory really yummy! Especially since I had been living in NYC for like 6 years by then and hadn't had a indian taco except once in that space of time! lol

If you get to the GDS Fair we are usually set up in Ag-Land, which is right in front of the dairy barn behind the grandstand. Hope to see you there!
Oh yeah, and since you're in Honesdale, have you been to that antique/junk shop next to the New Holland dealer? They have some pretty neat stuff if you are into "old" or antique. We went there last weekend. Didn't buy anything, but I have my eye on an old butter churn I may go back and take a second look at.
