Has anyone had tomato plants sprout from their compost pile? I have three plants that are doing very well right out of the side of my compost pile. I even had one sprout next to my rose bush that I put compost in before planting it. I have heard of people planting potatos in the compost pile. I cant wait to see what develops.

I'll have to check the compost. I did throw in tomato cuttings!

Ours had tomatoes and potatoes in it. Over the winter DH tilled our garden spot and added compost to get it ready for spring. We have had the most bounty from squash that we didn't plant but had put in the compost pile in October. I bought squash for my son to carve for Halloween (waited til the last second and no pumpkins) 1 spaghetti, 1 acorn and 2 gem squash was all I bought and what's coming up is doing better than the stuff we planted! And we're learning to love squash!

This year I have squash, potatoes and sunchokes growing in the compost. Last year I had zuchini and tomatoes. I just leave them there and let them grow until we've harvested the goodies in the fall.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

We had incredible big pumpkins growning from ours last year. This year we just tilled it up and planted squash and they are doing great.
