I got 6 eggs, 3 cucumbers, mint, basil, some dill and cilantro ready to dry out...hopefully some more chicks, but mama hen isn't letting them come out yet.
Show me or tell me what you garnered from your farm today!

Lucky! The only thing I got today was some rosemary (the herb...not my daughter...LOL!) and some mint to make some soap. For some reason someone from base housing thought planting mint was a great idea. Good for me that can use it, bad for anybody who doesn't know what it is and tries to get rid of it!
I did just see the start of a tomato and a pepper though! Whooopeee!!!

Unfortunately, nothing here either. The drought has just about done us in. Tomatoes look horrible. The ones on the vine are exploding from the heat. Sigh. But I did find boneless chuck roast on sale for $2.79 a lb to can beef stew! Does that count?? :-)

I gathered 8 eggs (the heat is horrible) picked a bucket of okra and froze it in 3 qt bags. Picked what tomatoes are turning red, pickled 2 jars of jalapeno peppers, and sliced and froze 7 eggplants. Garden really slowing down, does not like 101 degrees. I also picked 9 green tomatoes, sliced and fried them for lunch with brisket, squash, purple hull peas, cornbread, watermelon, brownies, sliced tomatoes, and green onions. Have a Happy 4th of July!!! Farmgirl #946 Linda PTL its raining! Havent heard that noise in a while!

ahh..i want fried green tomotoes...i have to wait until I find one one at grocery store....this heat is awful .its 7:30 pm right now and 98 degrees. Whew! This desert sand holds the heat...the only vegs I have is zucchini,swiss chard, green onions, yellow banana peppers, spagetti squash, cherry tomatoes, which are still green,(waiting, waiting) . The wild rabbits ate the biggest spagetti squash. Plently of herbs..im so excited, I got dill for the first time to grow.. Drying them like crazy...which doesn't take much, as I air dry them. Hope we get some of our monsoon rains soon to cool us down....soon.......i hope.....

Well, I only got 2 eggs today. I am getting worried. I didn't have time to get anything today from the garden but yesterday got squash, zuc, green beans. lots of tomatoes, peppers. And I am getting goat milk every day.

| SNAKE---I had my first snake in the garden on Friday! It been 3 years since I saw one in the garden. Luckily my son was there and he got it when it went on the other side of the plastic fencing I have to use to keep deer and rabbits out of my stuff. I use the orange stuff like construction crews use. Its cheaper and easy to take down at the end of garden time. Other than this year, cause the ducks, will eat my fallgarden, so I am thinking this is a permanment thing. Linda Farmgirl #946 |

Yesterday at the community garden plot that I work with a dear friend, I was able to pick another handful of sugar snap peas. I did the same last week. We have a ton of tomatoes that are just turning from green to yellow, so in the next 2 weeks I'll have some lovely grilled tomato & cheese sandwiches for lunch!
I have plenty of herbs growing at home to use in my daily cooking (rosemary, basil, thyme, lemon thyme, sage, chives, Italian spice mint, parsley - although the caterpillars are feasting on that right now).

I have taken a few sugar snap peas, lots of greens, onions, and yesterday I dug up some of my garlic. Funny how depending on where you plant garlic it is ready at different times even if you put it in the ground at the same time. Weird. My potatoes are flowering so should have new potatoes soon and my tomatoes have little baby green tomatoes and I can't wait to eat them when they are juicy and red. Have a great garden day!!!!!

I'm always worried about finding a snake in my garden. I don't mind snakes, and used to have one as a pet, but I'm of the mindset that I'd like to see them before they see me!!! :)

I've got a plethora of mint, too. :) I wish I could post stuff for today, but I have been watching my old office since everyone is gone and giving diaper classes, so my garden is suffering!

Connie! I looooooove your garden! Especially your garden gate! BEAUTIFUL!!! :)
So far we've picked: onions, three types of lettuces, beets, turnips, rutabagas, yellow squash, zucchini, basil, mint, rosemary, sage, oregano, stevia, dill, cilantro, thyme and celery (but only thin stalks with big leaves - SO yummy!)... There are a ton of tomatoes, and cucumbers on the vines, baby heads of broccoli were seen tonight and we've got a few spaghetti squash almost ripe enough to pick! I'm having so much fun this year!
Girls - I don't know if you read my note in another post, but that mint is AMAZING when you use clippings around the base of your broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. It's been keeping the bugs away, and it actually seems to have some positive effect on the plants themselves - they got bigger and look SO much healthier! Weird, but true! Good luck!
