Hey girls, I have a freestanding gazebo and would like to use a sand floor instead of concrete tiles or bricks. I'm thinking I'd have to dig like a pit and then pour sand inside that. I plan to use concrete pavers on each corner to anchor the gazebo frame. I wanted a beachy kind of sanctuary. I thought about making lattice covers to go over floor for when I'm not around to keep cats out. Anybody have any ideas about how I should go about doing all of this, surely it would work??? Right? If not I'll have to go with the concrete tiles I guess. Ughhh...

Hi Mikki!!
I think that sounds great!! I would anchor the poles in sunk concrete instead of just pavers and I would make a rim around the sand pit with something that looks beachy like driftwood or river rock to help keep the sand from spreading. I think digging down at least 6 inches will give a good sand pit but I would probably go 12-18 inches if I could afford that much sand so that if anyone wants to dig in the sand, they can! :) What a great idea!!

Alee, thanks so much! I have some planning to do it looks like...I can't wait to get started! I found some artificial palm trees on amazon, some of them look amazingly real. I think I'll get one of those and a few plants to sit around. Thanks for your help, if you think of anything else let me know!

Depending on the budget you could get some canvas or palm fronds to "thatch" your gazebo roof to get the whole castaway on a beach feel! Or you could make cabana type drapes that you would tie back when you want the sun/ breeze, and open up when you needs some shade!

Yes it does!! Another thing you could do to set the mood is get some of those electic votives and put them in a glass bowl with rock salt. We did this with crackle glass rose bowls at my wedding and they looked so nice! A soft, difused glow and no fire hazard!! :)

Ewww yesss...great idea Alee! I also have some of those solar lanterns that are really pretty at night. I'm still debating on the sand idea...I'm just trying to figure out how to do it coz I don't want it getting soppy when it rains but there may be no way around that.

Mikki- if you dig it deep enough I don't think you will have a problem. Like Heather meantioned- sand drains really well so the water would go right to the bottom of the sand and then seep into the non-sand ground. I think it sounds like a great idea!! :)

If I were you I'd put some lights up (Like stringed lights) for night time-or some hanging lanterns...
