Greetings from a cool summer night on the edge of the Chugach. New to you all, I grew up not far from the photos of Mary Jane's book. It makes me homesick, warm, summer nights, hunting season, a farmgirl upbringing. It's faraway from here, we live a beautiful life, full of fresh caught salmon, shrimp, a house made over, two chocolate labs. We belong to an organic co-op. People cooperate together in Alaska, because we need each other, just like the farmgirl connection. I'm enjoying your stories and hearing about your lives....... my hat off to farmgirls everywhere! jo

Hi Jo and welcome! I'm glad you found us. We have other Alaska farmgirls in the connection! After my prayers in the morning, this is the first place I come to catch up on what's happening. It's like having sisters all over the world.

Hi Jo and welcome. Right now we would welcome cool evenings down here! I look forward to hearing all about your life in the great wild yonder. How wonderful to live in a community where everyone helps everyone else. If only we could all have that attitude the world would be a happier place. I love chocolate labs, what are their names? Have a beautiful day!! Kel

Welcome Jo~
I am with Jenny and Catherine...visiting Alaska is on my list of things to do. Denali Natl park, and seeing the northern lights. SO, I guess I will have to come to Alaska twice, once in the summer, and once in the winter...
My best friend grew up in Fairbanks, so at least I will have somewhere to stay!!

I am so glad you found us, we Farmgals stick together!
Love

Welcome to another Jo! I think that makes three or four of us on the forums now?

Alaska life sounds awesome, I love watching the PBS specials about people who live there year round - what a wonderful life. I will look forwarding to hearing more about your life and times. Hmmm. Salmon, shrimp...got any chocolate up there? Heaven!

Jo

Hi Jo, Welcome to the farm. Where exactly did you grow up? I live in Canada just north of Montana, probably not too far away.
I would also love to visit Alaska some day.

Welcome to the boards from a fellow Alaskan, i agree with you about wanting warm evenings, i am in homer and we have had a very cool summer here but i would not trade it for the world. I was born here so i just can't do hot hot hot weather but a little warmer might be nice. Glad you found the boards, there is or two other people here from alaska also and we were thinking that we need to have a long distance farm girl chapter.

Valerie

Yeah Valerie, a local farm girl! I love Alaska! Married to a wonderful "almost native" alaskan. We travel to Homer frequently, leave our boat there! I looked for chickens at that little garden stand at the end of the spit. I think we're the luckiest people on earth, we really are living in the last frontier. A long distance chapter sounds great to me. Thanks for all the welcomes from everyone!

Hi Jo! You sound like a girl after my own heart. My husband and I adore the West Coast, especially Alaska and Oregon. Your life sounds like heaven to my ears. Though I'm sure it is tough at times. So many of my good friends are from around the region and all say the same thing. The people are warm and friendly and will help you when you need it. In New England, it's a bit of a challenge to get to know people. Primarily because it's such a built up area, with so many shopping malls, we don't need each other. I like needing others and relying on the help of a friend, it's what we're here for! Glad to make your acquaintence!
