I second marjean (Marsha's) idea. I really enjoyed making the dish quilt.

Is everyone having fun with this? It is so nice to make these. I finished 5 of them yesterday. Was going to give 2 of them for Christmas gifts, somehow, they ended up being on the counter when I made some Rhubarb Jam and some Rhubarb Conserve last night. Just couldn't part with them. They are kind of addicting to make, aren't they? Went digging in my fabric and found some left over Chenille from a pillow project and that ended up on the back of 2 of them. Then the two that I hijacked from the Christmas gifts were done using towels. The one I made for my swap partner was done using fusible fleece. The very first one I did was done like a little quilt, that took too much time, the stitch and turn method is much more enjoyable. Hope everyone is enjoying this project...

Being there are so many ways to do these did we decide on how we were going to do it for the swap? Just wondering as I would like to get mine started and I am not sure if we are doing batting or a towel between the two fabrics. Is it better to then sew through all of it? are the towels more absorbant or not? Anyway please tell me how to do. =) Thanks
Go be a blessing to someone!

You can do it whichever way you like. They are all easy to do. For the fusible fleece one I fused the fleece to the wrong side of the backing and then put the main fabric right sides together with the backing that I have the fleece fused to. Then I stitched the edges leaving an opening for turning. Turn, press and finish how you would like. I did some light machine quilting on my exchange one. For the towel ones I sewed pieces of fabric together to make the top. Then I put the towel and the fabric right sides together. Stitched around the edge. Turned it right side out pressed. Stitched around the edges. I also stitched through the whole thing (stitch in the ditch). For the chenille ones, I stitched them together, right sides facing. Left an opening to turn. Turned it right side out and then press, stitched around the edge. They all dry out nicely. The towels were from the dollar store, so weren't that thick. I will take some pictures, but, not of the one I am trading. That needs to be a surprise!

This one turned out sort of small, kind of placemat sized. The squares are 5" and the blue strips 2-1/2"
Here is a detail shot of the stitch in the ditch
This one uses 5" squares
This one has a chenille backing.
The one I made for exchange has rounded corners, I like how that looks very much.

I've got the new towels and the veggie and fruit fabric - now to figure out which design to use and make them. As soon as I get to my country house I will make one for me and one for my swap mate.

Debbie, I just got the one I sent you back in the mail - I didn't have enough postage on it. I will go to the PO again tomorrow and rectify the situation. What puzzles me is that I used their official machine! I am so sorry for the delay. Kate

Kate - Just a note I've learned - If you use the PO machine and it is thicker than 1/4" or oversized in any way, then it has to go as a package instead of an envelope and it costs more.
If anyone is in East Texas, take a look at the Barter section - FREE HOUSE! It is in my back pasture and really needs a new home.

That must be the issue - I sent it as a large envelope. Thank you Linda!
