I know it is coming up quick, but we have found ourselves in an awesome new neighborhood with awesome new neighbors and I thought I would ask if anyone had any suggestions for cheap ideas to celebrate 4th of July in a fun, farmgirl way?

Happy Trails!

What about red, white & blue trifle? Layer pound cake, cooled cooked vanilla pudding, bananas, strawberries, blueberries & whipped cream - repeat layers until bowl is full, making sure there's a nice layer of whipped cream on top. Then decorate the top by alternating strawberries, bananas & blueberries alternately in circles inward. It's one of our family favorites! :)

Games,Food and Fun... Water balloon toss,Bozo buckets, bubbles, hulu hoops,Jump ropes,Tag,Red Rover,Sidewalk Chalk,All the games that kids dont know how to play anymore. And the parents can just sit and talk over a glass of Lemonaid.
Have everyone bring a dish to pass (but nothing healthy only junk food)Make it relaxing for everyone. Then end it with Fireworks or just a good old bonfire and sparklers

a bicycle parade for the kids-rwb streamers in the spokes...playing cards on the clothespin thingy for noise!

make poppers filled with candy etc out of tp tubes, crepe paper or tissue paper- save em fast!!! or cut paper towel tubes down or a pinata---flag shaped would be easy but do we want to teach them to hit the flag????

How about a neighborhood potluck? A giant potato salad is always a winner and Nini's trifle sounds yummy! Not a lot of meat, but you can usually buy a large bunch of chicken drumettes and wings, oven roast or coat and deep fry and serve with a couple of dipping sauces or alternately a HUGE pot of chili and either lots of fresh baked cornbread or lots of tortilla chips. Vanilla and Strawberry ice cream, lots of iced tea and a lot of fresh market vegies and a large tub of what ever vegie dip sounds good to you =)

Paper streamers, balloons and little American flags for decor. Get thee to a dollar store!!!
A neighbor hood kids parade, water balloons, any old fashioned kids games you can think of are great!

I don't know what kind of city or county laws you have , but if you want to do fireworks, why not talk to your neighbors and see about everyone chipping in and getting a good assortment? Affordable for everyone that way

What ever you do , have lots of fun! =)

Oh, Annika! You know what? Wouldn't an old-fashioned ice cream social just be awesome on the 4th??? Make-Your-Own, of course!

You all have such great ideas! I'm making my list!!!

Now THAT sounds like some good ol' farmgirl fun, Margo! My guys will LOVE that!!!! Thanks for sharing!

Annika - I just got a Ninja a few weeks ago... We freeze strawberries, add cream, a little sugar, dash of salt and vanilla and WHIR-R-RRR! The best dang tasting strawberry ice cream we've ever had! Starts out as soft serve, but when you freeze it a few hours, it's worthy of a rain gutter sundae! ;)

I had just seen these hot dog rockets in a mag. You would need crescant rolls, hot dogs and cheese wedges shaped like triangels and a skewir (sorry i dont think i spelled that right). You need to wrap the hot dog with the crescant rolls and bake (according to the package of creasants). When they are done skewir them all the way through. Than put the cheese on top. Very easy.

Happy it is, indeed, for me that my heart is capable of feeling the same simple and innocent pleasure as the peasant whose table is covered with food of his own rearing, and who not only enjoys his meal, but remembers with delight the happy days and sunny mornings when he planted it, the soft evenings when he watered it, and the pleasure he experienced in watching it’s daily growth.

One year I bought Jones soda pop in red and blue. The kids made floats with both flavors. Lots of sugar, but fun to do.
