Does anyone else do this? I recently purchased and engraving set at Hobby Lobby and tried it out this weekend...I LOVE IT!!!! I engraved a glass for a friend whose daughter is getting married in 2 weeks. While it is a LONG way from professional it actually looks pretty good to be my first go at this. I can't wait to do more. I have a huge box of high ball glasses I bought about 15 years ago calling me. Once I get comfortable with engraving, I want to try my hand at stained glass works.

| What sort of engraving are you doing? I've done it with the chemical paste, a diamond hand stylus, a rotary tool with a glass grinding burr, sand blasting and I now have a fun electric stylus pen with a carbide tip. I think I like this little electric etching stylus the best. I haven't done a lot with any of the methods, I'm just one of those people who have to try everything I am able to get a hold of at least once.... LOL!!! |

I bought an electric engraver and am using that. The one I got at Hobby Lobby is a relatively cheaper one, I'm considering upgrading to a dremel to use; the tips I got will work with a dremel as well (so the package says) and I think I could get alot more use from a dremel anyway (and I've wanted one forever) Do you cut glass? I've got a couple of glass cutting tools and I do not like them at all, but am not sure what would be a good one to use..any suggestions? What I've done so far has been to engrave a couple of glasses (one I did for a friend with her daughter & son in law to be's name and wedding date) and some doodling on some glass pieces I have. I also have some mirror pieces that I want to try engraving something on as well.

| Oh, take the plunge and get a dremel. I have two of my own, bought one for my boyfriend to use at his house and I absolutely love them. There is so much you can do with them, you can go nuts with the different attachments, I watch the clearence aisle at our lowes and home depot to get the different attachments that I want. |

I love my dremel. I have a work station set up on my work bench that has the power cable type of attachment so I just hold that and the dremel stays on the stand. I also have the router attachment which is great for edging wooden boxes or moldings. I also have a cordless one that I use around the house all the time. If you do get one, invest in the "quick connect" for the bits - it saves a lot of time changing the bits out. I even use it to drill holes in eggs when I am blowing them out for decorations! I haven't tried etching glass with it though.
