I thought someone here might be able to give me some advice. Back when she was a young teenager my DD made a darling Noah's Ark cross stitch picture. She would like to hang it in her baby's room before he's born in August. The years have not been kind. The background fabric is quite yellowed after hanging with no glass protection over about 15 years. I believe she used some kind of spray adhesive when whe mounted it too. Is there some way it can be cleaned at home or should I check with a dry cleaner? I would like to remount it behind glass to protect it in the future.

I think that the spray adhesive is the cause of the problem, not the lack of glass. You probably have nothing to lose by gently washing it by hand, rolling in a towel and letting it air dry.
Thanks ladies, I guess all it takes is just doing it. I don't know why I worried so much. First I tried dish soap, several soakings and rinsings then I had a package of BIZ and got brave enough to try that when there had been of dye running problems. Its still not perfect but worlds better. I'll try a couple more short term soaks and then on to stretching and reframing it. That I can handle. Susan
