Have you ever heard of, or using, scissors to fix something on your engine? Say a pick up truck?
I should add why I'm asking this. My husband thinks we were played, set up, or whatever you call it, for a possible robbery. Some 20 something girl pulled in one end of our horse-shoe shaped drive, popped the hood, called someone on her phone, then came to the door asking for scissors. I asked her 2 times if she needed help. She said "no, all I need is a pair of scissors"
She went back to the truck, then drove the truck around the drive, popped the hood again, then returned the scissors. I had all the kids home and the dogs would not stop barking.
My hubby said it sounds like she was scoping us out to rob us, because he never, ever used a pair of scissors to fix a vehicle when it broke down on the road. I found it very odd as well.

I think she needed the scissors for something else and just used the engine thing as a decoy...but what?

I am blonde too, but I didn't think much of it until my husband freaked out about it. He usually tells me I am the one paranoid.
Hubby told me that it would be very possible the scissors were asked for to use as a weapon to force entry to my home, and rob me. He said that she could have used her cell to call in help to rob, and was used as a decoy herself to whoever was home (young, alone, broke down, needing help etc). A woman would be more prone to allow a female in than a male, especially if they are home alone.
Any person doing drugs will do anything for money, and there are cars being broke into in a town 7 miles south of us. Anything is possible I guess, but my hubby was plain upset I had not told him. He said the kids and the dogs saved me that day. Who knows. I did report it to the Sheriff just in case.
I'm blonde, but we have had many people broke down by our home. They have all asked for a phone or to allow their vehicle to stay until they can return. Never has anyone asked for scissors. I would expect them to ask for a phone, water, coolant, a screwdriver, or any other tool, but scissors? Her behavior set me off, but I know how to box too, so I wasn't on edge. Just weird.

I don't know- If there was duct tape involved or electrical tape I have used Scissors before. Maybe she is just very tool illiterate and something that should have been done with a screwdriver she was poking with scissors?
It is also possible that they were scoping the place. I don't know. I would keep a the doors locked and keep an eye out for people you don't recognize in your neighborhood. You might also want to tell your neighbors that there was a possible situation so they can be on the alert as well. Kindof a neighborhood Watch type of thing.

She didn't have anything in her hands but her cell phone. Just weird. She very well may have been cutting tape off, but she didn't put any on that I could see.
We had a suspicious incident last year, so I am often locking doors and watching traffic.
The produce stand down the road had a well pump stolen not too long ago. The year before people broke in their stand, and trailer, and stole a computer etc.
I've never seen my husband get so upset about something either. He is usually calm. He told me he's going to teach me to use the shotgun. I've been asking him forever to teach me. Guess he will now.

Wow Kristina! I honestly can't comprehend that. Don't tell anyone but I don't even remember which key goes to our front door! We NEVER lock the front door unless we are taking a bath or shower while Nora is sleeping. We have left for weeks at a time and left the front door unlocked. We have electronics and things in our house that we don't want stolen but we live in such a quiet area and growing up we never locked the door so I guess we don't have that "safety" mindset. I don't think we would do well in a big city!! LOL

Yikes is right.
I spent yesterday on the porch, on account of my foot hurting again (spent way too much time on it to heal it). I tend to notice a lot going past us.
We have woods behind us and a creek, more woods and more fields. A few years back, people (people that live near here)were riding 4-wheelers through the woods, sneaking into houses from the backside, and stealing stuff. I've already run off men cutting wood illegally.

Kristina- I seriously can't imagine that happening around here. The worst that I have heard around here is that a daughter or granddaughter was involved in drugs and she and her drug buddies tied up her mom and stole her cash and car. The lady eventually was able to free herself and get to a neighbor for help. In Billings which is about 10 miles away there are more issues- some gang activity and such but really quite low key. Even when we lived in the worst area of Billings we didn't even lock the door very often. I honestly would have a hard time living in an area where I couldn't trust my neighbors. It's such a foriegn concept to me. I guess that's the product of growing up in a small town in Wyoming and living in low crime areas my whole life. I hope it turns out that the girl was innocent and nothing scary going on, but I think you should be prepared for the worst and know how to protect life and property!! *Hugs*

Hmmm, i know we have used a screwdriver from time to time to help open the carburator (spelling??) when starting the engine and maybe she thought you would have better access to scissors but..... weird!

That is strange but I wouldn't trust her. We never lock our doors either. I don't even know which key is to what door anyway. If we have keys. I even have left my purse in the car for days. I hope nothing comes up missing. And I hope your foot gets better.

You must all live in a much safer place than us. I've woken up to 4-wheelers on our property (behind us) and had to run them off.
A few weeks back, our dogs started barking. One of the kids looked out and saw an older man with long hair walking towards the barn we keep the goats in - no car in sight. Suddenly a van pulls in, picks this guy up, and leaves. I'm so glad we have our dogs. Sometimes our cats will tell us when something is wrong. Even the barn cats.
One day we heard the barn cats carrying on - hissing horribly, growling. They were telling us there was a black water snake by my back door.

This is why I keep the gates shut and locked from the road, my house sits back 3/4 of a mile from the pavement...people ask all the time if I worry about liven out here alone, and I tell them I have 5 dogs (3 Anatolians, and 2 Aussies), plus my shotgun, and if they can get past all of that, they can have it...

One of my best tools is my camera. I was in a small fender bender a few weeks ago and I had my camera with me. I was not shy about taking lots of pics of the other driver's car, especially the license plate. Maybe you could do that sort of thing at your house and it would let the interesting people in your neighborhood know you have something the police could use to track them down. I also ask lots and lots of questions.

I sure don't blame you for being alarmed by this event. It is very unnerving when someone behaves in a way that doesn't make sense!!
Dogs are a godsend for us out in the boonies, aren't they? Good luck, with time your peace of mind returns to normal!

Not to make you paranoid, but in my town a man cut the phone lines to my friend's house so her home security system wouldn't work. He's now doing life in prison, which is better than what he should get. I always lock my doors and I have a pretty good watch dog who acts like he's going to tear strangers from limb to limb when they come to the door. He's never bitten anyone, but then no one's ever tried anything. I grew up in the country, and sometimes rural, isolated locations are targets for thieves. usually all they're looking for is to steal something, but you can't be too careful.
