How many of you love old silverplate spoons or ladles? I know I do. The age of the spoons prove the years of lovingly serving food to the family from which they came......I have seen these spoons altered or changed and then decorated to make a lovely piece to hang on the wall or place in a shadow box.
To alter a spoon, you can just use the lovely patina that is natural to the spoon that you use, you can paint the inside spoon part (not the handle or back of spoon) or decopage images that are special to you. This would be the background of the spoon. Then you would find little treasures like old rhinestone jewelry, special buttons, old milinery leaves or flowers, tiny charms, the list goes on and on for items that could be used to decorate the inside of the spoon or ladle.
A bit of wire or ribbon will be needed to place around the top of the spoons' handle to have a way to hang your treasure.
You can find silverpated spoons in thrift stores, flea markets, or maybe some old pieces that you acquired along the way. Usually they are around $3.00 dollars or less.
You can google "altered spoons" and see examples.

********************************************************************************************************************************************
To keep the swap consistent, please use silverplated spoons, saying this, if you choose to decorate a ladle or larger spoon, remember you may receive a teaspoon sized spoon in return...Just make your spoons beautiful, one you would love to receive.
********************************************************************************************************************************************

Sign up ends July 1st and mail out your creation by July 31st.

Try to adhere the decorations to the spoon securely, but with as little visible glue as possible.

These are beautiful when completed. Let's have fun and create our treasures as wonderfully as we can. Partners will be assigned on July 1st and you will have a whole month to make your spoon.

You can never be to kind!

Hi Beth, sign me up to I not real good at this crafty stuffed, if it is not knitting or crocheting, I am not sure what to do. But, I have a bunch of spoons too so let's give it a try, sounds like a lot of fun.

Do the spoons have to be silverplated, or would stainless ones be ok as well? I am thinking of trying this one but I had no luck finding silverplated spoons at the local resale shop yesterday.
