Great post! I have an vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster from my Mom. I'm not sure of the year but it is a great 60's green color. I've been a little wary of the wiring and not used it---but I can't bear to part with it either. Maybe I will dig it out and give it a try, just to see what it will do.
As for other vintage items, I have lots. I love 50's and 60's era dishes and kitchenware, especially Pyrex. I don't know why, but I'm convinced that casseroles taste better when cooked in a vintage Pryex dish!

All my dishes are vintage, gifts from my grandmother, to my mom, then on to me. So are my cast iron skillets. My hand mixer was too, same avacado green as Deborah's stand mixer, but my DH tried to mix cookie dough with it, and it said "no thank you", and went ka-put:(
The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Fun post, fun blog!
The only things that aren't vintage in my kitchen are my stove, sink, disdrainer and fridge. I do have "newer" handmade stoneware dishes from England, but supplemental dessert plates and fire king from the 50's, and most of my baking ware and mixing bowls are all from the 1940's and 1950's (Westinghouse) and 50's era pyrex. And I use it all. I even have an old percolator for coffee. My chimney cabinet that holds all my pantry goods is a Sellers brand, from 1920; my Kromex cannisters (from Cookie all the way to tea) belonged to my Grandmother. I have vintage cookbooks on display, vintage linen towesl that we use daily for drying hands and dishes and lots of early kitchen flour sifters that sit as simple decoration. My kitchen table, a work in progress, is an old farm table from the mid to late 1800's and we've been stripping off the years of paint to reveal a really beautiful cherry wood.

Nuts...most of everything I have is vintage, antique or looks that way! :0) Can't imagine it any other way. I LOVE my Pyrex refrigerator storage cubes! Why did we ever get away from those?

What a great topic! I have several vintage things in my 1909 farmhouse's kitchen and I love them all. Something I no longer have, though, is most newsworthy for this forum: a sister Farmgirl now has (and is using!) our 1920s wood-burning "Victor Junior" stove in her home. We've since renovated, but have managed to bring out more of the vintage features and "feeling" of the room. I love it! We should all post pix of our kitchens. I'd love to seem them all. |

Lol, I have washed mine w/ soap and water before, too. It's so seasoned that there's no way it would 'un-do' all of it! It's so easy to re-season one, anyway. Now I use my little plastic scraper and hot water most of the time, but when the handle gets too greasy to hold, yes, I wash with a very mild soap.

I have a saucepan that is older than I am (my dad used it to pop popcorn when I was young). The handle on it is cracked but it's still good. I have a little food chopper that belonged to my mom that I remember using when I was little. I like to browse antique stores and look at the old kitchen gadgets. I have a vintage flour sifter and meat grinder and a metal bread box that I found at antique stores. Now if I could only cook like my grandma... Cindy

So Amanda, how do I re-season this pancake griddle? I might surprise my hubby.

Many, many vintage things in my kitchen, and I love seeing them daily. They all belonged to special family members. Maybe my favorite of all is the potato masher that belonged to my Nana. A wooden handle, and a curly-zig-zag pattern of metal for smashing. I don't use it, but it sits out on my chop-block island and makes me so happy to see it!

I have vintage tupperware glasses that I grew up with and my grandparents wanted to get rid of. I also have a vintage butter crock.

My husband is usually in the kitchen and is vintage. The rest of my life is in storage where I have my great grandmothers wedding china from 1900 and all my old Fiestaware that I have collected since 1973 because I love the colors. I have an old pie safe and a hoosher (?) cabinet with the built in flour sifter. I have many things from my Nana..lots of old 1950s holiday decorations that I love. Here in my Florida kitchen I have pyrex cassarole dishes from my mother and 2 potato mashers with wooden handles..my Moms and my Nanas. This is very cool--my aunt just sent me a bunch of buttons from my Nana who died in 1975. I am sending some of those tiny white buttons that were all on little girls dresses (my Nana had 6 girls and sewed for them all) to a Farmgirl friend who is going to sew them on a hat for my grand-daughter..5 generations thru buttons. It touches my heart and my Nana would be so pleased. Joey

Old wood rolling pins have not been mentioned yet. I have 3 from my mom and an old Jiffy Popcorn popper. It goes on the stove and has a metal stirring handle. It was silver but is black on the bottome from use. Could not part with those items. Lots of vintage dishes, which we use because I figure it is better to use them than just let them sit.
I am in the process of destashing a few items in my etsy stores but those are mainly vintage garden/tool items. I don't think I could part with my kitchen items.

Joann, I believe that would be a "Hoosier" cabinet. Would love to see a picture of it, especially with the built-in flour sifter. My g-grandmother had a small one.

My vintage collection is mainly tools/ utensils. Egg beaters, meat forks, flour sifter, rolling pins and such. I still use them all regulerly. I even have some of my grandfathers knifes with his intials carved in the handles ( he was a chef). I also use alot of cast iron, but I have such a mix of old and newer I have no idea which is which anymore.

I would love a bigger kitchen to put more vintage things in. I have a Hoosier cabinet that we started refinishing, then set it aside, unfortunately it's not finished, but it's ok as i don't have the room in my kitchen anyway. Someday that will be finished and a much welcome vintage member to my kitchen. I have dishes, rolling pins, aprons, table cloths, bakeware, pots, utensils, etc and just love it all. I try to use it as much as i can as well as display some. I love shopping for more when we travel to new places i always check out that towns antique stores. I don't know why we've done away with these great items, i prefer old over new, especially those with a story.

we have a lot of vintage glass: grandma's mason jars, milk bottles for flower vases/juice decanters, and french canning jars. my favorite piece would have to be our metal, three-tiered pie rack. its the best display after a day of baking...people just don't know what to say when they come in and see buttermilk pies cooling on the counter!
why can't i be more conventional? people talk, people stare, so i try. but that can't be, because i can't see, my strange little world just go passing me by...so let people wonder... |

I am so lucky - I have my grandmother's vintage fiesta ware bowls. I remember being a little girl and watching her make all sorts of delightful things for us to eat using those bowls!

I didn't set out to have vintage stuff in my kitchen, per se, but we are very short on storage/cabinets so my husband built a shelf in the kitchen and I started buying cute pyrex for baking/serving dishes--so they are a decoration, but also are used everyday. :)
