Well, my husband is going on a guy's fishing trip this weekend so I was tentatively planning a three-day pack trip to Pine Bench, if the trail was open. Or driving up to Kelsay Valley to trailhead camp even though the trails are closed with LOTS of snow still.

But yesterday I had to take my horse to the vet and now he is on Bute twice a day for 9 days. I can't take him with me (pasture rest) so I guess I'm stuck. Waaah. Poor me. Never mind that I have two pack trips scheduled in August. I want to go NOW!!!

I wanted to go camping over Memorial Day weekend but we've had so much rain that the trails are muddy. We've even had some mudslides on the bluffs, which is unusual. I hope you get to go camping soon.

No, not laminitis. The closest diagnosis the vet could come up with was a pulled or strained muscle in the stifle area. But this is the third day of 1 1/2 grams of Bute and this morning Sailor didn't walk any better. I hope and pray that if it's the muscle that it will heal quickly. If it is something more serious I will have to put him down. I can't afford a pasture ornament no matter how much I love him. I've had him for 14 years and have ridden him well over 10,000 miles in that time. I begged God all the way in to the vet not to take my horse, but that I would if that's what needed to happen. He answered that prayer big time and the vet only charged $90! Called it a lameness exam. Whew. So I wait and see. I do have three other horses to ride if I lose Sailor.

I'm not asking for sympathy or anything, just laying out the possibility facing me.

Hi, Grace. From Tuesday to Sunday afternoon there was no change. Sunday evening he seemed to be putting more weight on the lame foot but really limping when he would bring the other hind leg forward. Now today, Sailor is almost taking a full stride with very little limping. It's unbelievable the difference I can see. Of course, I and several others have been praying a lot for Sailor. Oh, ye of little faith. He still isn't ridable but I am cautiously optimistic that I will be able to ride him this summer.

Thanks for asking.
