I have a couple of ideas rattling in my brain but would like to know how you might add words to silk ribbons and fabric??
I have stamped with ink and also hand written but was wondering if there are other ways - you know me always looking for answers...

I wonder if you could use the iron on transfer paper for fabric.

I have seen in the scrapbook section, little letters that will stick on fabric, so I assume ribbon, they come in all styles, colors and sizes, also flat, puffy and embossed...

I heard an acquaintance talk about doing this once a looong time ago, but I've never tried it. 'Sounds pretty easy, though! I am thinking if you have a Xyron machine and repositional adhesive that might work for you when adhering the fabric or ribbon to the sheet of paper, too.
I am excited about this post because I have seen some LOVELY french ribbons printed with different words and images, but they're so expensive, and I'd like to try to do them myself! CTMH has some 3/8" twill ribbon under their "while supplies last" section that I've been eye-ing. I think that'd be really neat to print on, too! I am planning to try it using stamps and a heavier duty ink like Tsukineko's StaZon Inks. They are designed to work with both semi- and non-porous surfaces. I just love them. You can find them in all kinds of different colors at the craft store, or just in brown and black on the CTMH website (my link is below).
Good luck! Let us know what you find, too! I just love learning about new techniques like this! :)

Grace - I just found out that the StaZon ink isn't good for fabric - but I think it's only that you can't wash it... so it might be okay on ribbon and fabric items you don't wash... :)

Thanks Nini - I need them to be washable and I just have not found the fabric stamping inks to hold up to well. I will visit the site you listed and see what I can do to make my idea work...
Tina I have some of those stickers but they do not stand up to wearing in clothing.
Elizabeth I had not thought of the iron on transfere paper - do you think it might work on silk - silk can not take heat too well... I did try using the sewing machine that has letters to it but even with a stablizer the silk ribbon did not look right - now mind you I have an older machine and I am not going to run out to purchase an expensive machine just for this but I will look into the transfere paper.
Don't you just hate when you got something stuck in your creative brain and it has to come out a certain way??

If your iron has a silk setting it should, or use the lowest heat setting. I should think it would work. I buy my transfer paper at walmart...it's cheapest there.

I think the kind I bought was made by Avery. It is in the office supply things by the printer paper. You may find some online for cheaper than actually spending the gas money to go get it!
