I have sewn for years ; I have never sewn scallops before I know how to cut them out; but not exactly how to sew them. so , can you help me? I have looked up on you tube. most are for quilts. but I am make a purse and the front flap has scallops on the edging Help, lol thanks sheila
If you mean the scallops that are cut into shape and then sewn use a short stitch length and when you come to the turning point try to stitch one stitch across the point like you do when stitching a v neck as this will make them turn nicer. The trimming is as important as the sewing, trim close to the stitching and right into the point. Press before you do any turning to set the stitches, turn and press carefully. Kathy
They are on fabric. Okay, it is still confusing. I am old ; bear with me ha. do you cut them out on the fold and sew around each little scallop? there are 25 and they need to go on a edge of the front flap of the purse. hugs sheila
You got it, sew around each one, sometimes it's easier if you mark them and then sew them before cutting them. If you were closer I'd say come on over and we'll do it together. LOL Hugs, Kathy
Another tip--when you clip the curves before turning, make sure to clip V's instead of the usual snip. That way the seam allowance can spread around the curve. I've done this on MJ's frilly apron and it seems to work well.
