Back in the late 70's or early 80's I read a book on a man and woman who sold all of their belongings and went into the wilds of British Columbia to live. It was a fascinating account of their journey and how they set up camp - at first - in a run down abandoned cabin. It recalled the hard winters and how the nearest 'store' was many miles up the river by canoe.

The authors last name, I think, started with an 'A' - maybe Anderson. It was a common last name, that I do know for sure. I'm nearing 50 (gasp!) and have looked for this book for nearly 30 years. It left me with such an impression. Even more so, the idea of leaving all modern technology behind to live completely off the land has stayed in mind and has intrigued me ever since. I wish so much to get my hands on this book!

Anyway, for grins and giggles I thought I'd just see if any of you have heard/read or know of this book. It's kind of like a fantastic dish you remember as a kid and want, as an adult, to replicate it just to relive that experience.

I'll end by saying this: If I had the chance to do what this couple did......I'd never look back.

I FOUND IT!!!!!! It was called 'Wilderness Wife' by Brad and Vera Angier. I AM TICKLED PINK! And to top it all off, I was able to find it through Amazon as a hardbound book with it's dust jacket still in place. *sigh* Now to wait for it's arrival........

And while I'm here, let me just say that what with all the tech toys we now have - a person/people will be less and less inclined to take on this kind of adventure/lifestyle. To leave behind all those little things that have made their lives easier, the things that have spoiled us, that have paved the way for us to become more sedentary and less self sustaining. Like I said.....in a heartbeat.
