So I took the plunge and gave notice at work last week. I've been with the same firm for over 25 years, so this is going to be weird.
Anyway, I'm leaving my position as accountant with a forestry firm in July.
I'm going to be doing QuickBooks consulting, and some small bookkeeping and payroll accounts. I'm also going to do more with my Tomboy Tools business.
Hopefully, this will give me more time to work in my garden (we have 1.5 bare and empty acres) - do some sewing, and do more volunteering. I'm helping to start a food bank in our town, and have been asked to be a Mentor Mom for our MOPS group.
So, I'll be busy!

How exciting! I, too, left work-but I left to be a stay at home mom. I know that many people, especially small businesses, need Quickbooks consulting (My old work did! And they paid high prices for it!). I hope that works out well for you. Also, I'm starting to get more involved with my church and looking into becoming a consultant for a cloth diaper business. I wish you nothing but the best!

And Sherrie,
Be sure to tell us all about it when your "giving notice day" comes. Try not to look too happy! Har!
This reminds me of the "I quit song" that the character Kate sang on the Drew Carey show some years ago. Kate worked for a horrid nasty woman and finally one day she just snapped and broke into song:
Oh....I......hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you-I-hate-you
I quiiiiiitttt (I quit). (bowing down into a lovely curtsey).
--Of course, this was even funnier because something happened in her life that made her suddenly desperate for a job--so she had to grovel to the horrible woman. She got her job back but it promised to be even worse than before. Such a scream...
I can't say that I felt the need to sing this to my boss when I gave my notice (he's a nice guy) but with my dark humor, I found it kind of fun to imagine...
har
Good luck!
Karen

Congrads Bev!!! Seems to be the month to follow your dreams. I to turned down a replacement position at work and I have to say I skipped all the way out. It had been a long time coming. I am so happy when I hear that a Farmgirl is following her dreams. My local food Market should be opening June 1st. Might not have an income for sometime BUT I will get to wear my aprons everyday.

Congratulations to each of you - choosing the path to your own bliss. The day I left my difficult corporate job I felt as though the weight of the world was lifted from my shoulders. Enjoy your new life ! |

Wow, what a change for you! It sounds like you've "accounted" for everything and will certainly reap the benefits. I'd love hear how things go. And I love your big smily face at the end of your post. Good luck! Kathie The Last Letter, A novel http://tinyurl.com/3gj2a3y

Thanks to all of you for your kind and lovely comments.
Today I took a big step - bought a new laptop, office chair and file cabinet, along with a bunch of other equipment and software.
Why does trying to make some money cost so much???
Now to finish my certification, and I'm off!!!

Congratulations Bev! I wish I could do the same. I only work part time but it would hurt us too much if I quit. I was reading an article last night that had 5 women who had all left their jobs to pursue their own path. I told hubby I sure wish I could do that but we'd lose the house. Once we have the bills paid off it will be a different story. I sure am inspired by you ladies to make that happen sooner!

congrats Bev!! I will be singin it from the rooftops when I give notice. Right now I'm using $$ from the part time job to boost my inventory. The biz is starting to pay for my personal expenses as well as biz expenses, which is great to see. Lets me know I'm doin the right thing.

So I gave up the job - and FINALLY have my office set up the way I want. Finished the shelves today. Note that there is a 136 degree angle in the wall - made this project particularly tricky!
Ready to work at my own pace!!!
