I didn't know where to share this really, but I like it, and thought maybe I could here. My youngest son has just graduated preschool. His teachers are all wonderful. We always give teachers an "end-of year" gift, but always try to make it something special yet resourceful. I finally came up with the idea of tomato plants for them to give. I also wanted to express the sentiment of how much their (the teacher's) work means and accomplishes. So I wrote this to go with the tomato plants, and now it makes me cry that my little ones are growing up!
Tomato Just Like Me
"Here's a little tomato plant just for you. It's really a lot like me. Just like me, it needs a good place to root. It actually LOVES dirt and mud, just like me. It plays in the sunshine and plays in the rain, but I bet it trembles a little during a storm. It grows taller and stronger right before your eyes, just like me. And sometimes it needs a little support so that it doesn't get hurt, or sometimes even caged in when it gets too big for its britches and overgrows its boundaries. With all that love and care, soon there are so many yellow-star blooms of promise that you can't count them all - just like me. And soon, while its leaves and branches keep reaching out and up into the world, one blossom, then two, then three, and all the rest of them turn into tiny green tomatoes. They start out little dreams, getting bigger and redder, and brighter for everyone to see - just like mine. Finally, the tomato plant has so many big gifts that it can give back to the world that helped it grow so much. Just like me..."

Thanks for letting me share, and thanks for having such a great place to share at!

That is absolutely wonderful. What a great gift and analogy. My sister is a teacher and this will just touch her heart so much!! What a blessing you are to your child's teachers.

I just finished re-potting eight tomato plants and I was talking to them the whole time, telling them it seemed traumatic but it was really so they could grow up big and strong. Your son's teachers will always appreciate your gifts.

My youngest DD is starting kindergarten, and oldest DD going into the 2nd grade. I have a teen DS, and a toddler DS. Every stage covered, this was so amazing! What an incredible analogy. This was so sweet, thank you for sharing! It made me cry.

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

How perfect! I know the teachers loved it, both for its usefulness and its orginality. I'll bet they'll be talking about that gift for many years to come!
