Hi, everyone!
I am Kelly, and I live in a small farmhouse in upstate New York. I married my high school sweetheart 19 years ago, who grew up on a dairy farm, and we have one son, Dennis, who is 16 years old.

The farm is now used to just raise beefers, and my son is up there now helping bale hay.

I work during the school year as a Teacher Assistant in Special Education, and have a part-time job in a small (and I mean small!) local library, which is my passion.

I adore cooking (but not cleaning up!), reading, and traveling with my family.

I found this site by getting Mary Jane's book (from the library )
and was thrilled to read a lot of the threads. That, of course, made me want to jump right in, so here I am!!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I've been off in the kitchen (with my cookbooks!) preparing dinner, but I had to see if I had any replies. It gives a warm fuzzy to be welcomed so generously!

Hey, Beth - Johnsonville is half an hour northeast of Albany, close to the Vermont border near Bennington. Minnesota...never been there, but I hear it's cold!

It IS cold here (from another Minnesota gal!), but not as cold as it used to be. I'm a December baby and I remember REALLY cold birthday parties...now I barely need a hat! You must get a ton of snow out there too?

Yes, we can get dumped on here too. I too can remember those cold birthday parties (February)! I tend to need my cuddle-duds and smart wool socks around here in the winter...don't handle the cold as well as I used to!

Hi Kelly, where is Johnsonville? I live in Northern New York. I used to get a little angry at people who refered to upstate New York as the Syracuse or Albany area.........well, it has finally dawned on me that that is upstate........I am, however, in NORTHERN New York. I live very near the Canadian border.

Welcome aboard!!

Hi, Kelly!

A big WELCOME from way out west! I'm about five miles into Washington from the border with Idaho. I only live a couple of hours away from MJ's farm!

Nice to hear from another library person! I've been working in libraries for the past six years and have been on a bookmobile (library clerk work AND driving) in northern Idaho for the past five. The pay stinks, but the work is rewarding.

I have library work in my blood as my mother is a retired professional librarian. Also, she was born and raised in Jamestown, New York, so I also have some eastern blood in me!

Again, welcome! Karin

Hi, Georgette...
We are half an hour northeast of Albany...about 200 miles south of Montreal, Canada...yeah, we always got ticked when we were travelling and told people we live in New York, and they automatically assume New York City...there IS more to New York than that big city!!!

Hi, Kelly. I'm way over at the other end of the state in Rochester. Still upstate, though, no matter what anyone else says. After all, my dad works for Upstate Farms (milk processing)!

I love libraries, and I think you have a great job. I'll go check out your other post in the Reading Room. Welcome!

Welcome Kelly,
I would like to venture to New York soon. My brother-in-law lives that way. Maybe next year.
I really like going to my local library. Especially on a Saturday morning, oh yeah, they also have great air conditioning. :)

love, janet

I am moving to my new little farm in CENTRAL New York! I kept telling people I bought a farm in upstate New York until people straightened me out. You can see a picture of my beautiful 240 foot long old funky dairy barn. I have been farming outside in lean-tos with no electric, water or lights for five years. My barn will be a palace to me and my critters.

Hi Kelly, welcome. I found the website from the book also, about 1 year ago. I live in Hoosick Falls, about 1/2 an hour from You. We have a group of Empire State Mountain girls, that gets together whenever possible. I have chickens and one scotish highland cow, a rabbit, a dog, and a cat. I want sheep, horses, pigs, and goats but I also have a husband.

Hi, Marianne!
Nice to hear from a "neighbor"! We have chickens, pigeons (don't ask...) and cats. Yeah, with that husband comes no horse or dog here! Well, we had a wonderful dog, but she died suddenly 2 years ago, and I just can't bring myself to get another one because I loved her so much. Don't want to go through that again! Anyway, thanks for the welcome!
