Help! Something is eating my peas! Yesterday, they were 4 - 6 inches tall, trailers picking at the trellis... this morning, it's as if something gnawed on most of the leaves, some are trampled-looking (although that could be from our dog), and a couple are almost leafless! What do I do? I put down some blood meal, hoping that IF it's that not-so-delightful family of rabbits trying to move in again, they will be dissuaded by the smell... But I'm not sure if it's rabbits??? We haven't seen any evidence of them anywhere in the neighborhood yet. There are a ton of hornets and bees out there, but I doubt they'd be eating them... Could it be an insect? WAAAAH!
I just planted a whole bunch more seeds, but I sure would like to nip this critter destruction in the bud, if I can. Any suggestions?
Stinkin' little pea eaters... make me so mad! >:(
Thanks for your help, girls!

Oh Nini,
I'm sorry, that's discouraging.
You know we tried putting blood meal down to help with a tree we had just planted a few years ago. We caught BOTH of our dogs digging up the ground there and licking it clean. I wonder if some dogs (or yours) got into it.
I hope you can figure out what's going on.

I am so sorry! I have an entire garden of broccoli eaten before, like 40 plants, and was so sad! I have had CArdinals eat my peas, but They can fly in. Next time, fence your peas in with that soft fencing ans zatake it to the ground. I use it over and over to keep things out.

Is it ever going to warm up here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan???

Maybe you have slugs and snails eating your peas. That is what we have here and they will destroy a row in one night.
Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do! |

Hi girls -
Jeannie - we have cardinals, too! Wonder if that might be part of the problem!? Hmmm...
Hang in there, Melody - it will warm up... maybe you'll have a longer summer and your fall will be warmer???
Ingrid! Oh! I never even thought of slugs! I'm going to run out and place flour around the peas right now - that will cure those critters, for sure!
Thanks so much, girls!
Hugs -

Mystery solved... it's definitely the birds. Dang birds... They love my garden just as much as I do! I am not sure, but I think they got my pepper plants, too. Stinky... stinky... stinky... Well, I think I'll have to run out and get some netting tomorrow. We cannot have this! Thanks for your help, girls! (Is it any warmer this weekend, Melody???) Hugs - Nini
