2 tablespoons warm water
2 teaspoons yeast
1 cup warm milk
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar ( sorry I forgot to type this earlier)

1 well beaten egg
1 tablespoon butter softened( yes you can substitue margarine I just hate margarine tasts yucky)

Dissovle yeast in warm water. Mix in milk, egg, salt, sugar, butter, and 1 cup of the flour; Beat with mixer until rubbery (such a lovely term for food). Beat in remaining 1 cup flour. Let set 10 minutes over bowl of hot water and cover with dish towel ( clean of course).

heat 1 inch of oil in large frying pan. Fry by spoonfuls in hot oil till brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Roll in sugar while warm.

Sunshine - are those malasadas? There's a place in Hawaii (where my Dad's side of the family is from - they're Hawaiian/Portuguese/Norwegian?!?!?!?) that has what I think these are, and I could just sit down and eat about 100 hot ones! Thanks for the recipe!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Sunshine- Whatever they are called, they sound delicious!! I have copied your recipe to try. We love fried dough at our house, but we only make it at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just a family tradition that has been followed from my grandmother's childhood. This will be something new to try to fill that "have to have something fried" need!
