Tala is getting moved to a new boarding stable tomorrow. I can’t help but feel let down by the boarding stable she is currently at. About six months ago they raised their rates by $50 a month and the service has only gone downhill from there. A couple weeks ago I had to wrest moldy hay from Tala’s mouth and rush to the vet to get medicine to prevent her from Colic.
But at the new place she is going to have a grassy pasture where she can graze, a free flowing creek to drink from and we will have 22,000 acres to ride in. Wish us luck!!

Alee, that place looks amazing. I know she will be happy there and you will too. I'm so happy that you found such a great place for Tala. It looks like the place I had to board my horse for several months before bringing her out here. Then I had to sell her. Anyway, it looks like some great places to ride too. Have fun!

Alee, I know how you feel. I took my little sister's pony on for my own children-- the old girl is about 20 now. Suffice it to say she's a special needs pony. I left her with someone who had horses for 3 months while I got my fences ready, brought her home and the drunken idiot who was "taking care" of her (my mother's ex boyfriend) had been tossing hay out to her in a field with two other horses who chased her out of it, and my poor old girl was a bag of bones and hair. For one thing-- even IF she was able to get the hay from the other horses, she couldn't chew it up so great, in any case, I clearly said she needed to be fed separately to make sure she got any, bought the food, and it was too much trouble to do it right, so she nearly starved to death.

I've been fattening her up with rice bran and dairy hay for all this time and she's only just now filled out and shedding out her coat properly.

Thanks Sherry-

No I am not happy with where she is at right now. She has been living in a 12x36 dirt pen :(

Everyone is welcome to come visit!

I am going to go give Tala a bath and make sure I haven't left anything behind at the new barn. Then the brand inspector is coming out to give me a new certificate and this afternoon we are hauling her to her new home.

Good for Tala! I'm sure there are quite a few boarding options out your way, Alee. I know you will always look out for her well being. I would love to come visit...if only Kentucky wasn't so far!

Alee,
I'm so glad you found the new place. It looks wonderful! When I saw the title of this thread, I thought "oh no, she isn't losing/selling Tala!" My heart sunk for you. I was so relieved to see this wasn't the case! Enjoy the new home and space with your beautiful Tala!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

How exciting - I am sorry to hear about the other place but it sounds like you two will be moving to a much better place. Get out there and kick up your heels in those great pastures.... See change can be good - I keep telling myself that.

Hey Alee! I just saw this thread - when I was looking for a new home for my boy, I thought about Beartooth - it's GORGEOUS! The only reason I decided against it was the distance from us in Billings. I hope you love it!!! Maybe this summer I can haul out there and ride with you. I just recently started riding Bubba again and he's a little nervous - ok a dripping-with-sweat, anxious, dancing, ready-to-explode sort of nervous. But he always did much better on a trail when he knew he was going somewhere, or in an arena when he had a job. So maybe!!

Hi TJ- I would love to ride with you, but they don't allow "guest" horses on the property. They have very strict quarentine standards- which from a boarder's persepective is really nice!
