My town has what they call the http://www.homelessgardenproject.org. It is within walking distance to my work, so I sometimes walk through it on my lunch break to see what is growing and to visit the ducks. It is a great cause and they sell CSA shares. I loved seeing the ducks by the pool today. I sometimes daydream on my walk that the homeless gardens are all mine. A girl can dream, right! Here are some pics from my lunch walk today.

These pictures are on my walk to the Homeless Gardens. It is such a beautiful walk. I feel so lucky to work in such a beautiful area just on the edge of town. I have the beach in one direction and the homeless gardens in the other.

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Rebekah...thank you for posting your pictures and I absolutely love the Purpose of the Gardens.
And what a delicious place to spend your lunch hour. I swear when I first looked at your picture of
the small lake or pond with the rippling water...it looked like it was moving on my computer. How
cool is that? Made me do a double take.

I checked out the web-site, signed up on their mailing list and checked out their on-line store.
Which I will be purchasing some items from there and making a donation. I truly believe in this Project.
Thanks so much for making it known to your Farmgirl Sisters.

Hope you will share some more of your Lunch Hour fun with
all of us.

Blessings,
Peggy

I love all of you farmgirls; you just make my day! I have been using this website to concentrate on other things than what is going on in my life, so I don't fall apart from stress and you all just make me feel so much better. My husband has been laid off for a year now and I will find out if I am getting laid off in two weeks from my state job, so I could potentially be a mess right now. However, I have just dove into the farmgirl website where I read what others write, I share my walks and all of the beauty in my life and it really helps. Thanks to all of you for de-stressing my life and making me feel so much better.

Diane & Laurie: Thanks for your comments! It is a beautiful escape away and contrast from my cubicle and computer at work. ;-)

Jen: Wow! The prettiest spot in California! LOL! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and us farmgirls find beauty in gardens and plants don't we. I have to agree that it is pretty spectacular.

PeggyAnn: I looked at the pond picture and agree that it almost looks like the water is rippling. It makes me want to jump into my screen and find a boat to float in that water (or go outside and really find a boat and float in the water). Thanks for supporting the Homeless Garden Project. It is a great cause. Among other things, they have work days and a chef comes out and prepares food for everyone from the garden who works. It is just wonderful!

How does that work? Do the homeless get the proceeds? Or the food? It's a big garden. Do they work in it too? I have thought about helping people start gardens in their backyards but don't know how to get that going. I guess just ask if they want help and help get the started? I am talking about people who sit around and wait for food to fall from the sky when they could be planting a garden in their yard. Maybe put a poster up at the DFCS?

I hope you will be keeping your job, Rebekah. That is very stressful waiting to hear. I am so glad you have a beautiful place to walk and also a new family here to come talk to.

Kris

Kristin...check out the website it was very informative and simple to navigate (small site). The homeless are paid to work in the gardens and then it sounded like they sold the produce at their Farmers Market.

You have an awesome idea...wanting to help others learn to grow their own gardens. I highly encourage you to persue that.
I am going to be helping my son and future DIL put in their first garden. We can pass a long our experiences and
help someone else be able to feed themselves. That is a marvelous feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment for the teacher
and the learner.

Rebekah...I am so glad that you found MJF and are enjoying the friendships that are here for the making. I joined a year ago...when
my husband went back to work and I was left at home with no car and I have Fibromyalgia...so, spend alot of time at home in pain.
I have learned that even in pain you can create your own fun and joy; and that is what I do on MJF. I have met so many dear friends and really got envolved in various swaps and barters, Secret Sisters, Mail-Art and I hang out on The Virtual Porch every day. That is a great group of Farmgirls on there. Come check us out. It is under A Farm Of My Own. Glad to have you a part of the Sisterhood. We all help make life a little easier and uplifting for one another. I am proud of you for seeking out a place to find fellowship and fun and to add the same into each of our lives too.

Blessings,
Peggy
