Hi gals, I'm desperate here, I've been calling up a storm to all my local stores and no one seems to be the least bit interested so far. The thing is, I'm in a local La Leche League, which is a non profit organization to help breastfeeding mothers and their children for free. we are needing some money to stay with the LLL international to make it easier for mothers in need to find us, along with all the information that LLL continues to give our leaders to help breastfeeding mothers. We are having a fund raiser at the end of July to kick off national breastfeeding awareness month in August. I've called about all my local stores I can think of and so far have come up with nothing. All we are wanting is a few things that would be appealing to nursing and/or pregnant mothers, so that we can raffle them off.

A few things off the top of my head-
organic cloth nursing breast pads, cloth menstrual pads, nipple cream, maybe organically made energy bars, a baby sling/carrier, cloth diapers, maybe organic diaper rash cream, and so forth.

If any of you farm girls has a business that makes such things, and would be willing to donate such for a raffle for our group it would be so appreciated!

Thanks Gals.

Marsha, it's not really a list, as much as ideas that came off the top of my head, that would be doable for some one to donate. We don't need any or all of them, specifically I just thought those may be good options for a raffle, and was just throwing them out there as ideas of what may go well (may bring in a lot of money in tickets), however, we're open to anything any one would like to donate.

Thanks Joanna, will do.

I'd be willing to donate something but I don't do anything "baby or mother"y. I make jewelry, and have a pretty, soft lt green scarf knitted. Maybe a pink or blue bracelet? Would that help? Just let me know. Joey

Sorry gals for taking so long to get back. I was at a circuit assembly over the weekend (Marsha will know of which I speak) and then I've just been busy non stop since, our congregation is having a visit from our circuit overseer right now as well (again Marsha will understand what I am speaking of) but any way, will try to get a email to every one who asked!

Joey anything "green" is pretty much in with LLL mammas! I think the scarf would go over big!

Keep us upto date on this, I am madly looking for items that would be good for the cause, and I would like this to stay in the for front... there is a great need for information on this topic, what with so many momma's working today, they feel their only option is from a formula company, and no matter what that is not the best for the babe.

Thanks Ing it's so true. We are getting new mommas every day, however not many can afford memberships and that's our problem right now, LLL helps people weather or not they have a membership but it's hard when no one has one at all! lol haha But, we are getting many mothers who have older children that they formula fed, and are now pregnant again but want to learn to nurse. So every day new people are coming in needing help and support. The fundraiser is scheduled so far for July 31st.

I was involved with LLL years ago and it is a wonderful organization! I would like to donate some items but do not have or make any of the things that you suggested. Could you use some crafty items that aren't baby related?

I'm sure that would be wonderful.

there is two other things we are doing as well-
1. We plan on doing a balloon release. If you want to purchase a balloon they are 1.00 each-if you were actually there you would purchase as many as you like, add what ever note you want and release at a set time. However, I think we could do that long distance as well if you told me what you want your balloon/s to say- I could do it for you.
2. We are also accepting any donations towards sponsoring mothers who can not afford membership, a membership.

But, anything you think people would like to bid on or spend money on would be greatly appreciated as I'm sure it would help bring in money too!

Heather,
E-mail me your address and I'll put it in the mail. I'm sure I could knit or crochet another one if you tell me what color. Hugs, Joey

I think any color would be fine. The mama's in my group like earthy things, and quirky colors, etc. lol So any would be cool I'm sure. Some also like baby leg warmers. lol They just dress their babies in a cloth diaper and baby leg warmers with a onesy. lol

Heather, I was considering doing the classes to become a lactation specialist. I am a huge supporter of BF-ING. the LLL is such a fantastic resource for moms. good for you to be involved!
This store has been, throughout all 4+ years I've nursed my children, my all time life saving favorite place to get nursing gear. I got their email address for you. I know they sell LLL nursing / pumping bras...maybe they will be willing to donate. Here is their email address & #.

Thanks I will give them a call.

I have also considered doing the special lactation consultant training, (iblc something or nother) as they are really trained well (not all LC's are really trained). I think though I really like doing the LLL cause they offer every thing free, and really help a LOT! I wish I had found them with my first DD.

Many times the manufacturer of baby items will donate baby items. For instance nipple cream, diaper rash cream, baby carriers, strollers, diapers, etc. My sister wrote a sewing machine company and got them to donate a sewing machine to her so she could make certain items for a needy charity. She fulfilled her obligation, took pictures and sent them to the manufacturer in a thank you card.
