Deborah, I am so glad you got you power back on. How far are you from here? And you had 2 tornadoes go through your town? I don't know how many they finally ended up counting here. You know Kelly Wall. Her whole area was destroyed except a few houses and hers was one. 8 people there were killed. I just drove another way to town today and saw more horrible scenes I had not heard of yet. It's so amazing how big these things were. Abd so many too. My old neighborhood in Flintstone was hit really bad. But Mrs. T and my Dds neighborhood got power back on yesterday afternoon. The tree guys were there cutting trees off lines then it came on. There is a little power station on the corner I guess they needed to get that working first. But there are still lines just hanging all over. I am shocked every time I see more. But all my family and friends are ok. I am so thankful.

There are donation drop off places all over. And lots of places for people to get food. They are asking people to give blood right now more than anything. They are still searching for people. I am going to go Monday. I have never given blood before but these are my friends and neighbors here. I feel like I should.

Kris

Kris, Yes one good size tornado hit in Rome. We were so lucky that just a few trees went down on our long road to our house. But nothing else. We are about 45 min. from connector 3(the first connector 3 exit on 75). I work off that exit. I am in Plainville that is between Rome and Calhoun on hwy 53. So glad you were safe. And happy about Kelly Wall...But the devastation is like something on the movies. I see pople on TV and am so hurt by there loss. And I am happy about hopw communities come together when it is needed.

Reposting here...

Our power is up for now. Utilities have been sporadic so I'm putting this out here while I can. Thank you for all the prayers! The damage here in Alabama is horrific. The tornadoes just kept coming and coming, one after another. The tornado sirens here went off 16 times that day. My husband was at work at Huntsville Hospital during this time and was required to stay there while we (my son, me, and my two little Bostons) huddled under pillows and blankets in our home hallway for hours waiting for it all to end. Thank God we are okay and unhurt, but so many others have lost their lives...the last count I'm aware of is somewhere in the neighborhood of 355 dead. I believe at least 3 of the tornadoes that went through the state were classified as EF-5. At least one of them that I'm aware of was almost 1 mile wide and tracked for at least 16 miles. Those poor souls didn't stand a chance against 200+ mph winds from an EF-5. So sad!

Here are some home videos of the tornadoes. If you'll notice in this first video, there was one main tornado with other smaller ones dropping down from time to time out of the cloud:

Here is a shorter video of one of the twisters. This is one of the EF-5's that hit. This was around 3/4 to 1 mile wide and pretty much distroyed the town of Phil Campbell, AL. This is the same tornado that hit near my uncle's house in Hackleburg, AL:

A short video of a subdivision in Harvest, AL (near Huntsville). Totally unreal...

If you haven't seen them already, here are some photos of the damaged areas in Alabama:

This is the town where my uncles lives. The town is pretty much gone.

There is SO MUCH NEEDED here! It seems that the most needed items here are non-perishable food items, new socks and underwear (men, women and children), toiletries and personal hygiene products, towels, just about any baby stuff - clothes, food, formula, etc. Also needed are AA's, AAA's, C's, D's, 9V, and Lantern batteries are in much need for those who are still without power (about 60-70% of folks in the affected areas, as well as the Huntsville area are still without power). Please donate items if you are able Farmgirls! You can send items to me and I will take them to the local Red Cross or you can donate to the Red Cross directly:
http://www.redcrossrelief.org/

If you send items to me to give to the Red Cross, just click on my profile name on this post and send me an email for the mailing address. Gotta run for now, but I'll hopefully be back on later today!

Just wanted to share something that someone posted on Facebook (not me). Warning, it'll give you goosebumps!!!

quote:
Just thought I would share a little something will all of you. My sister is in Lawrence County helping the victims. Long story short, some people found a 3 year old little boy inside a drink cooler, ALIVE! The people asked him how he got in there. The little boy replied "The man with the wings put me in there!
