There are really bad storms with tornado activity heading my way. On the weather channel just now said there have been 35 tornadoes in Kentucky already. Ours is coming from Alabama. Those are always bad when they come from that way. Right straight for Chattanooga. I hope all you in Kentucky are ok. And Alabama. Today could be scary. I don't have a basement but we live in a valley. I guess I'll get in the little closet in the hallway if I need to. Oh, I don't like this at all. At least it's during the day. Most have been at night.

Well, the "appetizer" is over. That's what they are calling that. About 1/2 an hour ago there were tonadoes spotted in Chattanooga Valley. That's just 20 miles north of me. But that's where my youngest DD and her hubby live and Mrs. T. and the elementary where my granddaughter is, and where my oldest Dd works. I called and told Mrs. T and her Dd and helper to get to the basement. They did. My DD said the power went out and a tree fell on the corner of their house. I called the school and all kids were in the hallway. And now it's nice and calm and looks like a cloudy day here.

But they are saying this was just the appetizer. This afternoon could be worse. And all the way up to Ohio there are tonadoes and flooding. I hope everyone is ok that's in the path of this horrible weather. Being in this valley is somewhat of a protection for us right here. But just over Pigeon Mt. to the East is flat. And to the North is Chattanooga. We lived in Chatt. Valley where my Dd lives now right next door to where we used to live and we had a tornado go right through the field next to us. So it can happen.

So now we wait.

On the way in to the office this a.m, 3 funnel clouds were spotted, luckily, south of where I was driving by about 15 minutes. Interestingly enough, they seem to be taking the exact same path as the "shirred winds" took last week, laying waste of quite a few barns, semi's and even a rest top on the expressway.

This is a day I am happy to work in a stone foundation basement from 1866, lemme tell you!!! Careful, Kris!

Wow, Jonni. I hope y'all are ok there. It is really a bad storm and huge. We will have more later. Just talked to my Dd again. There are a few trees down across Mrs. T's driveway and her Dd was leaving today. And Dd's hubby was already cutting on the tree that fell near their house. She said there are trees ripped up all over. They took a drive just to see. ANd power lines ripped in half. They will probably not get power for days.

Hi Kris, glad you are ok, and that no one got hurt with the falling tree. I thought of you when I heard the Chatt. valley area. I guess we need to hunker down for the afternoon. everyone stay safe. Phyllis

I just remembered I have a whole cow in Mrs. T's freezer and her power is out. Probably will be for a few days. How long should I leave it til I start to worry. I think if power is still out in the morning I will go get it. Problem is, my 3 freezers are just about full. I could get about 1/4 of it in them. My mom has an extra fridge in her garage I could maybe put some too. But hopefully they'll get power back on soon. It should be ok if we don't open the door for a few days, I would think.

Phyllis, did y'all get any bad weather up there? I can't remember where you are. But Knoxville will be in the path of this next round of storms later today.

Hey kris...just don't open the freezers. Should be alright for at least 24 hours, but when it starts to get "wet" on the surface, it's best to get rid of it. For your sake, and your neighbors and friends, let's hope that the power company can keep up.

Oddly enough, the sun is shining and sky is blue with just a few clouds here in No. Kentucky, now. Mother Nature has a wicked sense of humor!

Hi Kris, we are fine. we got some stormy weather and the siren went off a couple of times, but it does that if there is a warning anywhere in the county. the nasty stuff was north of us. just watching for the next round. we are between Chatt. and Knoxville, near Athens. I'm about over tornado season. LOL.

I would think that your cow should be ok for a day if the freezer isn't opened much. hopefully they will get the power on soon.

Jonni, so glad you didn't get the nasty weather, and I'm also glad you are in a stone basement. stay safe. Phyllis

It passed just south of us, Phyllis, about 15 minutes or so. It was ugly all morning, now it's as pretty as a picture. I'm WAY over tornado season, but yep, it's good to be in the basement :)

Well, the weather people are saying that sunny skies are not a good thing right now. There are more heading this way. My SIL is in Whitwell, Tn. and it was heading right straight toward them. And hubby is heading to Knoxville. I just talked to him. He was in Cleveland Tn, just past Chatt. Said Hwy 24 West was closed. I guess because the bad weather was going that way. I hope he's ok in that big truck. It was nice and clear here with blue skies and sun. But now the clouds are rolling in very fast with very strong winds. I could hardly open the front door.

Phyllis, be careful. It is heading towards Knoxville really fast.

Jonni, Stay close to that basement! Ya never know. I think this is the same system but you're up higher.

I just saw that dozens of people have been killed in Alabama from these horrible storms all day. And then in Trenton just this evening they got hit again. 2 people killed from this one. And in Catoosa Co they had another really bad storm and they were calling for mass casualty trailers. I don't really know what happened there yet. There are shelters set up all over the place.

Flintstone, where we used to live, just 20 miles North of here, got hit really bad today. There is a whole neighborhood with every house damaged and one totally. My Dd lives there and she said it could be 5 days before they get power again. There were power lines just ripped up and trees all over. It's just really bad.

There is still thunder and lightening tonight here. I can see the sky light up toward Chatt. And now it's heading to Atlanta and Rome tonight. Rome already got hit this morning. It's just been going on all day in waves. One after another coming.

I hope our Alabama girls are all ok. And it was also heading to Delonaga and Ruth (Violetrose) lives just beyond that.

These storms sound just awful. We had a tornado recently in St. Louis that did a lot of damage. Miraculously, no one was killed. There are also some small communities around here that have bad storm damage. It's supposed to be sunny on Thursday (does anyone remember the sun?) and then more rain for the weekend. Too much rain! The rivers are rising, but it's worse south of here near Cairo. The weather seems crazy all over. I honestly think the Earth is trying to tell us something. Maybe that makes me a kook, but when the Earth speaks, I listen. I hope all the farmgirls are OK.

I just posted on the Hogs and Quiches thread on the Tornado post. Just an update of what I know so far. It's horrible. The town of Ringgold and Trenton were both nearly destroyed. Anyway, you can go there and see the update.

Thanks for the prayers.

Hi All -

If anyone hears of a farmgirl sister in need, please let us know. You know we'll "rally the troops"!

We have had tornado warnings here off and on for the past two days, but none have actually hit close yet.

Stay safe everyone.

Thanks for all the prayers, y'all. It just seems to be worse than I ever imagined. Every day there is more and more to see. I just went to town a different way today and saw big giant trees blown away. I saw the path it took. So scary. And so massive. Hard to imagine the scope of these tornadoes that came here all day. I have seen aerial views that are so sad. I am so glad that the one that hit Ringgold was later at night because the middle school was totally destroyed. They say it will take at least 6 months to get it ready for school again. If it had been daytime and kids were there, I just don't even want to know. Lots of clean up all over going on. I am going to take my truck next time I go to town and start getting the wood that people are cutting and stacking by the road. There is so much. I am so glad no one in Flintstone was killed. It is a miracle. But so many were killed all around us. A whole family was killed in Ringgold. So sad. So please remember these families in your prayers.

Kris
