hi kristina, i really like the book -- keeping a family cow. they also have a web page like this. lots of folks with jersey cows. i am getting my 3d one soon. i have 2 i am milking now. one is a cow i shareherd.when i started i read all the old posts i could there. the book is very helpful. when are you getting her? happy days sherrye

Thank you. When I typed in subjects for the library search, nothing came up. I'll try the title you are suggesting. Thanks for all your help. We'd really like to add a jersey cow next year. This year it's too crazy.
they have website at www.keepingafamilycow.com the website is wonderful..great forum really really helpful..really is geared toward women with a family cow. I have had my Jersey cow Mona for 5 years now and this is by far my favorite book. It was written by Joann Grohman...the book is sold on the website as well...I totally recomend this one.
I have quite a few jersey cows, If you have any questions let me know... I usually bottle feed the ones I get, Because i get them when they are less than 24 hrs old.

oh tara i am so excited you are on here. i have a ton of questions. i have 2 jerseys in milk. i milk by machine. do you have exp. with machine milking? have any of you ever had a cow blind eyed on the left. i may rescue a heifer first calf. heifer by her side also. she is around 2 small mix maybe dexter cross. which i also raise. well dairy dumped since she got pink eye and lost her left eye totally blind. i would love to take her and probably will. trying to think how i can help her. she is banged up on her blind side. so i thought maybe some sort of pack that she would feel rubbing to warn her shes too close to the gate. just brainstorming. do you know about A-2 cow milk? we are having so many new cowgirls come here. i cannot keep up with all each has. on kfc they post under their posts like we do for blogs only they post what they have. i think that would be fun. it would help me keep up with who has horses cows goats chickens pigs doggies cats etc. LOL i think i could remember more about each one of us farmgirls if i remembered your stock. just a thought. what are you farmgirls thoughts. happy days sherry i milked 6 gallons out of my girls this am. first good milking. went smooth hazel is settling in now.

so i sure hope i was not impolite and hi jacked your post. kristina i just got excited about all these girls with milk cows. there are all kinds here. jersey brown swiss and even kris has an angus in milk. so fun for all. happy days sherrye

Sherry, Yes i have experience with machine milking. I actually have a like 20 cow milking parlor. But I was told we will NOT be milking.. Alas beef cows it is :) Rescue as many of those jersey calves you can. They are the best cows to have. I love Jersey's They are my absolute favorite, then herefords. Pink eye is bad though, that can spread through a herd like no ones business from what I hear. I have never had pink eye (knock on wood). I have a black angus that is blind in one eye.. I call her black eyed Betty. She Is fine she walks around things with no problems and she's a good cow. I also have a horse that has one eye. They get acclimated to it. so she will adapt give her time.
