I didn't see it, but it's the way of big business. It's amazing how expensive gas has gotten, as well as sea food. I knew they'd never pay for the damages like they said, but I didn't think they'd be so blantant as to "stick it to us" so soon, of course, blaming it on unrest in the Middle East. News Flash - there has been unrest in the Middle East for the last 4,000 years - but gas hasn't always been $4.00 a gallon. I do firmly believe you'll never get the true story from the news media. Want to know what's really going on? Talk to someone who lives there...it's amazing how the stories differ.

I have been studying the history of the world's finances and how economies work and have found that actually, the reason things are getting so expensive for all of us, is because the Treasury is devaluing the dollar by continuing to print more dollars. The more money that we put into circulation, the less that it is worth and since it is no longer backed by gold, our money is only as good as our creditors think it is. Recently, the Chinese have decided that our money isn't very safe and so they have been shedding their hoards of dollars and investing in commodities like oil, grains, cotton, gold, silver, etc. This makes the prices of those commodities go up and then, with our lower valued dollars, they become even more expensive. It used to be that a dollar bought a dollar of goods, but now, the dollar only buys around 80 cents worth of goods because it has been devalued and could even be going lower. That means that for something that you could once pay $1 for, now costs $1.20. I am seeing this in my business where heavy weight cotton was costing $2.99 a yard last September and is now $9.99 a yd. That's rough for businesses that depend on cotton material! But foreign nations are investing in cotton by buying it all up instead of buying our dollars. That puts a real crimp in the supply of cotton. Also, whereas the US dollar was required for countries to import goods, China and Russia have decided to abandon the dollar as trading currency. That's bad. The more countries that choose to do this, the less our dollar is worth and the more expensive our goods are going to go. This is why Utah has just voted to accept gold and silver as currency. Who'd have ever thought that could happen?
Add to all of this the fact that oil wells are being blown up in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia has announced that they are cutting back on oil production and our own government has put a moratorium on drilling and you get a real problem for gasoline prices. Russia and China are buying up all the oil they can get their hands on. Makes it tough for the rest of us. I am not very optimistic and think that we are not going to see it get better anytime soon as long as the US keeps borrowing and printing money at the rate we have. Having lost a farm to over-spending and over-borrowing, I know that eventually the piper requires payment.

BP = British Petroleum = Big Poops = blood pressure (as a nurse, that is how we abbreviated blood pressure. I am sure British Petroleum has raised all blood pressures of those involved and even of those animals, birds and fish etc who have had to try and adapt to the mucky mess.) I am very sure that what we sow, that we will also reap. I'm sure they will all reap bazzillions.

I saw a film about the gulf oil spill, and the CEO of BP was quoted as saying, "I want my life back." Well, what about the lives of the men who were killed, the animals who died, the people whose lives depended on the gulf? This guy went to a yacht race after the spill and wondered why people were so angry with him. I don't think he's the CEO anymore, but I'm sure he was well compensated. It's appalling.
