My critters crack me up--we have a big 5 yr old male yellow lab, a tiny 14-yr old gray cat, and a 9 yr old fat tiger cat. They're all inside, and we have a pretty tiny house.
The dog is terrified of the little gray cat--she even takes over his water dish and keeps him away from it--at times!! She can back him down and will jump up hissing and clawing if he gets too close. At night they sleep in the same room (not near each other of course!) and for the most part ignore each other during the day.
The tiger cat is completely another issue. She stays in the kids' room and only ventures out in the deepest middle of the night or when she's sure the dog is outside. The dog can just hear her footsteps and go hunting-crazy--searching all over for her, running her down. Now, if he ever were to catch her, he probably wouldn't do anything but sniff her, but he hasn't gotten that close. She's kind of dumb (the cat) too--if she dares venture out and COULD get past him (if he's sleeping or whatever) she stops and HISSES at him till he wakes up and goes crazy.
I do wish they'd all just get along. . . :)
