man and woman praying in a field. I believe that it is called angelus. There is a wheelbarrow and the man is holding his hat. I think it has something to do with the bells ringing out the time of prayer. If you have one and would like to barter I make aprons, dishcloths, or crocheted doilies. This picture is a very old one. Thanks, Farmgirl#946 Linda

It looks, to me, that they are praying over their field for bounty or thanking God for what they have just harvested as little as it may be...not the ringing out the time for prayer. I like the picture, though. Does anyone know what the name of the actual painting is? I'd like to find it online.

I found it on allposters.com . It is called The Angelus, painted by Jean-Francois Millet in 1859. What a gifted artist!!!

Thanks Jackie, for the allposters.com address, I have not seen this one before. I went and looked and ordered me one. I read about the picture in a magazine a few years ago and it talked about the church bells ringing in the town to call all the people to prayer wherever they were or whatever they were doing. And the artist captured this couple in their field when the bells rang. I am not sure how true this is, but have read it again on google when I was looking up to see that the picture was called. I have the perfect spot for it in my house and I will need to find the perfect frame now. Thanks for all your interest! Linda

Linda, Thanks for sharing the history of the painting. I didn't look for the history of it when I was online, but that's truly interesting!

As for frames, Hobby Lobby sometimes has frames for 50% off and they have some nice ones if you can catch them on sale. Google Hobby Lobby then see what your local weekly sale ad has. You might even get a coupon for it!

Yes, I love the job that Hobby Lobby does, my daughter and I both have had things framed there, and used a coupon and they did a great job. Wow antique book ends, how interesting. I am going to look around on e-bay and see what I can find. I am sorry that I have been off a few days, I have been very busy, and at night so tired. I fell off my mule today (haha that is Kawasaki mule) and am so sore today, so I have stopped and relaxing with the computer. You may ask how did I fall off, well my skirt hung on the emergency brake, and I stepped off and it hung and I kept going, and fell and hit my hip. Thanks for all your interest. Farmgirl #946 Linda

Thanks for asking. No just my pride. I am fine, just sore. Moving better this evening. Tomorrow, we are celebrating our 43rd anniversary, so we are taking the day and going away nothing special, just away for the day. And to be together. Have a nice week! Farmgirl #946 Linda
