Hi Ladies! I am looking for a few books that are required reading for merit badges.
I know I can get them through interlibrary loan, but they require them back in less than two weeks, and with two wee ones and a ton of housework, I can never get them read in that time. Does anyone have some that they would part with, for cheap, for postage, or to swap for something? Let me know what you want, I have a little of everything in this overgrown house.

Animal Vegetable Miracle- Barbara Kingsolver
FOUND Montrose; Life in a Garden- Nancy Goodwin
Roots DeMystified by Robert Kourik
Gardening with Heirloom Seeds- Lynn Coulter
FOUND The Soul of a Horse by Joe Camp
Dare to Repair by Julie Sussman and and Stephanie Glakastenet

Okay, now in some cases (especially with montrose, heirloom seeds, horses, and dare to repair) these books are the only things standing in the way of my merit badges. I am a SAHM and I just can't afford to go buy all these books.

I also have lots of badges that I need MaryJane's books in order to complete. This has me a bit frustrated, because in addition to buying my membership, now I have to buy all her books to earn my badges. I am sure they are fabulous and worth having, but how do I afford all these books? :)

Hi Megan!

Welcome to the Sisterhood! Earning the badges is a lot of fun and there sure are a lot of them! Most of them don't actually require owning the books (or reading the books). Another great thing about the sisterhood membership is that we get discounts quite frequently on the books and other such wonderful things from the farm. Perhaps if you do want to own the book instead of borrowing it from the library- then you could work on the other ones first?

Another option that I used for Animal Vegetable Miracle is audiobooks. Audible.com has Animal Vegetable Miracle and the Lifebook! I believe if you sign up for a trial membership you get one free audiobook so you could always try that route.

Posting here on the barter section is great- you never know when someone might have an extra copy lying around.

I guess my best advice would be to keep trying to barter for the books you would like to have but in the mean time you could enjoy some of the non-book needed badges. For example all of Cleaning up and Each other badges don't require the book. Also you can skip and choose which badges you want to work on. You can skip the ones that have reading requirements if you like.

I hope that helps! Please don't hesitate to ask more questions if you have them! Again, Welcome!!

Meagan,
"MONTROSE" will go out in Monday's mail from a Farmgirl in Scottsdale, AZ.
But, let me know when both books arrive so I know they did.
The horse book went out yesterday from my house.
Happy reading!
