I truly would not have expected to find radiation in the milk because the wind currents should have (at least I thought) dispersed the radiation particles into very small, very small pieces....this is shocking to me. If the radiation can reach our shores...then the effects on the country of Japan are significantly worse....wouldn't you think? We were stationed at Misawa many years ago and I cannot help but feel such anxiety and sadness for our Japanese friends and Americans alike who are sticking it out there. We just have to keep praying for a solution to this tragedy....God Bless them all. Erica |

I've heard about the radiation in milk too. That was one of the first things someone close to me (in the science field) told me, was beware of milk if the radiation levels get worse. So, I guess I'll be sticking to Almond Milk for a while and good thing I'm stocked up on cheese. This can all be a bit scary but I can't imagine what the Japenese must be going through right now. Just awful. This tragedy will affect us all and the planet for years to come.

OK, if one will not drink milk. Would not the water we drink also be effected? Anything that was watered with outside water? It makes one wonder if one thing is effected what else. I would think anything that is exposed to the elements or made from particles even almond milk could be exposed. They are even stating it has been found in small amounts in the air we breath. What can we do? What did we do when they bombed Japan during World War II? Or when Russia had their melt down? It all became a global problem.
Just realize that it is everywhere and not just in milk. One can not be any safer to switch to something else. We need to be aware and be prepared.

I don't know about radiation but I know that some chemicals (like triclosan) actually increase as it goes through the food chain. Triclosan, which is in hand sanitizers and soaps, some toothpaste, clothing and cleaning supplies, goes into the environment and into the streams and rivers. Aquatic life is very susceptible to this chemicals effects and as it moves up the food chain, the chemical level INCREASES instead of decreasing. Then we humans eat these toxic fish. Like I said, I don’t really know much about radiation but until I know more, I would rather be cautious. I’m sure the radiation is everywhere in the environment, so not drinking milk doesn’t totally eliminate the problem. However, ONE cow needs to consume a heck of a lot of grain, grass and water (that may potentially be contaminated with radiation) to produce one gallon of milk. I would personally rather eat broccoli and drink almond milk than to consume cow products at this point. And yes, knowledge is the first step in being prepared.
Edited to add: When it comes to topics like this, I feel pretty strong about it. These are my views and am in no way trying to tell people that they shouldn't ever drink milk. This is just how I feel about this, which may seem extreme to some folks.
