Here is a picture of the pie safe I got a couple weeks ago. I was taking pictures of the new loom and realized that I never took a pic of this. I love it. It was actually headed for the dump and I saved it's little life!!
I am not totally happy with the stuff I have in it..so that will change..but it sits in my living room and it is one of my favorite things!! It is really "homemade" and primitive looking...has diamond shaped cutouts with screen over them on each side as well as the screened door on front. I love this kinds of thing. The doll on the little willow chair is one that Frannie made. I traded her a book for the doll.

Jenny,
Looks real cute, what a luckey thing that it didn't go to the dump and instead found a good home!! I too love to get new things and then putter myself crazy fixing them up, which usually means changing the whole house around. Not sure how that happens, bring one new thing in for the kitchen and the bedroom ends up getting changed around.HA.

Jenny-

I love your pie safe! (And how you have it displayed!)I'm glad it came to you and not the dump. My dad was just lamenting the other day about how you can't go "dump-picking" anymore. Now things that end up there, stay there when they could be put to much better use.
This really is a toss-away world we have now.

Karin

Frannie's doll is adorable in that chair!

That is beautiful! My mom and dad regularly "dumpster dive". They live near a residential college, and it's amazing what college kids toss. Many times they have found high-end clothing with the tags still on them, not to mention plates etc. My 5 year old son has been thrilled with a vacuum cleaner they found and gave him!

Jenny - wow, that is a real find! Very unusual. Down here in the south, that would be worth hundreds of $. And I love the way you have stored things in it. Thanks for showing us!

I love the little twig chair, too!

Peace

Jenny, I love your new treasures. Isn't it something when people throw out things you love & you actually get to have & keep them!

Jenny - I would love to see your interior whole house sometime. I expect it is a treasure, too. Your kids are lucky to grow up there. Last year, when we were in North Carolina, we visited the Foxfire Farm, still in existence, and still selling all the books! I think you can even get them online, but I am not sure. Anyway, it was so cool to drive up this very steep mountain road, and see all the restored cabins. I talked to a neat woman who weaves and sells her stuff there. And it is just mountain people who man the store. I loved it! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know, the books are still available. The farm is located near Otto, North Carolina.

Peace

Your pie safe is sweet, Jenny. I think we're going to have to find one or even build one when we go off-grid ina couple of years. I've always wanted one. I love saving stuff from the dump, too.

I'm very glad for you that you got this "good stuff"....and the price was right, too. I like old stuff like
this too. I got two old metal cabinets that I want to repaint and put some nice Pa.Dutch designs on it
and some old shop table made out of strange (must be old, but not heavy) wood....but my DH doesn't
much care for it. When I went to GA I took a hike on the Appalachain trail (blood mountain) and stopped
at a general store and they had some old chicken placque screwed on the side of a shelf that someone
carved - ahha! it came home with me. The owner asked what I'd give for it - I said "$20." He said, "no,
won't take more than $10." The old stuff has a nice homey welcoming warmth to it. I'm glad for you.

Great find! We should all be so lucky as to have friends that call us to haul off"junk" like that!!! I like the way you've decorated the shelves. I especially like the kitchen stuff. Enjoy:)

Buttercup - I bet I know why Foxfire in listed in Georgia and you are right - when we visit that Otto and Dillon, NC area, it is just across the Georgia state line into NC, and we spend the whole week going over the line from one place to another to visit places. Sorry for the error in info! :)

Peace
