Sometimes I start "hookin" and I get a blister on my finger from doing too much!! :) My daughter did a project for 4-H one year and after judging we went home got our supplies and went back to teach the judge how to Locker Hook.. it was fun to share the craft. |

One year at the National Western Stock Show I was a teacher and I had a listing in the show book called "So You Want to be a Hooker"
The show promo group made this great big sign that stood outside this room that said the same thing. When it came time to teach my class I opened the doors to the room and walked inside - there was about 45 people signed up for the coarse but the room was full to over flowing about 100 folks in total. I got up to the stage and looked over the crowd and I started laughing because the over flow where all men. I told them I guess they did not read the fine print - we weren't going to be THOSE kind of hookers. Their faces turned red but most stayed - I think it was because none of them wanted to admit what they thought the class was going to be about...
I love being a hooker how about you??

I'm going to check this craft out. You peeked my curiosity! My husband would get a kick out of me being a hooker :) (in the craft sense of course).

Oh my goodness how have I never seen this craft? It looks so fun and what a great way to use my fabric stash. There may be some rugs in my future. I would love to see some ideas of what kinds of things are made with locker hooking. When I finish the knit or crochet for Mongolian babies project I just may have to try this. Do you just buy the grid backing at a craft store? Thanks for sharing this!

This craft is so fast and easy. I know you can get the supplies at JoAnn Fabrics. I have made several hot pads and now I am working on a table runner. There are a couple books out there (I will post that later) that are really informative. I have even googled for designs.
Happy Hooking!!!

I took a local class a couple of years ago and totally enjoyed it. I have been using yarn rather than fabric. I just finished a small size rug using an assortment of yarn, both color and weight. My problem is that I still need to figure out how much yarn to use or for that matter how much material to use. Is there a formula?

How funny, I somehow managed to come to own one of the hooks and had no idea what it was, but I use it all the time with my knitting. After looking at this thread, I went on line to see what it was all about and there is my "Hook"!. Learn something new everyday ~ can't wait to do some rug making.

I am thrilled for you Deb about finding another use for the hook - I have found it has many uses and I even have one in my truck vet kit...
You can do more then rugs - I made hats, journals, even vests and coats... I sell a much smaller locker hooking needle that I use on silk, linens, towels and hand made felt - I love the smaller hook even more then the larger on because you can do so much more with it. I have even added work to purses, hats, scarves, sweaters and the list goes on......
I love being a hooker - I have such freedom and make good money too!

I finally tried it a month ago or so. I bought a batik jelly-roll at a quilt shop and used those fabrics. I made up a pattern of a heart in the middle and squares on the bottom left and right. The rest was just using the different fabrics to fill in. Turned out pretty nice. There are some nice tutorials online. That's how I learned it. I just put in a search for locker hook instructions and they popped up. |

I actually just bought the hook and backing this week at the thrift store. I wasn't sure what it was called. But after looking it up on youtube... now I know what to do! I found some really thick rug yarn this morning and I am going to try with that first. I am excited now!
