Mama was having a lot of trouble having her calf and then she had a prolapse and the vet was called to do a cesarean. All is well and Mama has a zipper now. LOL MB

That's sweet. If she has a c/s, can she have another calf? Just wondering, Carol

Depends how old the cow is. If it is her first calf one my go ahead for next year but if she has more problems she may go down the road. MB

Mary Beth, she looks young. What happened? And how did you know there was a problem? My heifer is getting ready to have her 1st calf in a few weeks and I am nervous already for her. Yours looks really good. I am so glad she and the calf made it and are both fine.

I really should get out more, I didn't know a cow could have a C/S. They don't teach that at the thrift. I also grew up on a farm and never new this. Anyway cute picture.

Kristin, This is on my daughter's husband's family ranch. they have several hundred heifers or first year mamas. . they work two hour shifts 24/7 until all heifers have birthed. The bring them all into a central area and the ones closest to birth into a barn area. They just watch them continuously. I stayed over there for a week and went down to the the area several times with them. . The older cows are brought closer too and watched but they know the ropes better. Los of goings on. Talked to my daughter yesterday and they have only 4 more heifers to go.
They have 22 bulls so you know they have a lot of cows. MB

That girl needs a sweater...all I keep thinking is BRRRR!!!!!
Congratulations though. I am happy it went well for you, the cow and the calf.
22 bulls! Yikes. That is crazy.

I bet they are celebrating those last 4 heifers. We only had 5 goats to kid and we were on the 2 hour shift as well. It is exhausting, but the end result is SO WORTH IT!
