my brother-in-law just told me that he's had a really bad case of vertigo for 11 days. (i thought he just meant that for 11 days he'd had an episode, like maybe 10 mins. each day----but he has it around the clock) has anyone had this? any ideas or heard of anything that either fixes it or at least helps it? thanks!!

It's usually caused when the tiny stone in the ear that regulates balance gets stuck in the hairs that regulate position.

Not sure what kind of dr he can go to for assistance, but there are exercises to do that will loosen the stone

It's a crazy feeling....enough to make a body sick, so I hope he finds some relief soon.

Look up a diagram of the inner ear. The stone and hairs are in the snail shaped thingy

Sometimes it is helped by taking an antihistamine.

I've had it before. After several days, when I realized I could fall in the shower or something awful, husband took me to the doctor.

Everything checked out well. He explained that vertigo was one of those things that was really hard and difficult to find a reason for.

I went home and started researching it and found that if nothing else, I could actually learn how to manage it. So I started that and after a few days it subsided and I've been fine since.

I'm intrigued about the ear stone. I wonder if it could've had anything to do with that? Even though my ears checked out fine.

Sometimes it is just a matter of earwax buildup and having them irrigated and clearing that out can make a huge difference. Not always the case, but sometimes.

I had an ear irrigated in college thanks to a go 'round w/ vertigo.

You wouldn't believe the ear potato that came out! Sorry for the TMI

Some say that using q-tips just shove ear wax back into ear canal. I use them to dry my ears and can't stand seeing ear wax hanging on in other people's ears

My daughter just went through this. The doctor said that it was called benign positional vertigo. He had a lot of great techniques to help deal with it. There is a simple test that the doctor does right in his office to determine if that is the problem. The best is to go to the doctor and let him diagnose.
