Does anyone have a pattern to make a drop spindle? And also how to use one? Very interested in learning.
Share how you started and little about drop spindle.
Thank you.

I actually started spinning on a homemade drop spindle made from a dowel and a couple of old CDs. Here's some instructions http://www.ehow.com/how_4497759_cd-drop-spindle.html I'm still using it although I think if I bought a more traditional one that it would spin longer. It really helped me to learn to spin on the drop spindle first before I moved on to a wheel.

My first lesson was actually at our local fiber fair and was just an impromptu session with one of the vendors there. Start with wool and I prefer roving myself for the drop spindle. Happy spinning! I know you will love it! One of my sons still wears the hat I knit with my first yarn and he loves it.

Thank you...is it easy to learn? Looks difficult. But love learning new things. I love to knit and crocket, so I thought why not learn to spin as well.
I will check out the sites you gave me. Thanks again and please anything else I need to know and learn let me now.

Well today I made my first drop spindle. Know I will have to teach myself how to spin wool onto spindle. Hope I can do it. I have beautiful color wool someone gave to me, and would like to make a hat or mittens. We will see how much yarn I can make out of it first.

I tried my handmade drop spindle today. It is a challenge, but I'm going to contiue to try. It is pretty cool.
