I'm looking for ideas to make a new costume to wear for our festivals and special events. I'd like a day dress of sorts with a little fuller skirt. I have some that fit more in the category of a work dress, I'd like this one to be a step (or two) up from that, but not formal. Does anyone have any experience with different patterns? What's comfortable? What works well for a plus size? Full dress or 2-piece? I have found someone to do the sewing for me and she has already made a Civil war gown, so I know she can do the sewing, she doens't have an inventory of patterns to refer to, though.
Thanks for any suggestions/experience you might have. Blessings.
lynda- i made a skirt for myself for a DAR function- it was a very basic but i think i still have the pattern- it was actually for dresses--
if you email your address to me i would be happy to send the pattern IF i can locate it....i wore a white blouse and bought a velvet "cumberbund" -- i am thinking that might be buried in my shed by the snowfallen roof .... i'm at work or i would have looked before i typed....
don't know if any of this helps
as to 1 or 2 piece? i would think it depends on comfort for you- many of us who are or were plus sized are not always evenly plussed if ya know what i mean! a 2 piece even if of same fabric might be easier to wear......

During the 1840's the bodice was usually separate from the skirt so if accuracy is what you are after, two pieces. Check out Past Patterns http://www.pastpatterns.com/1830.html
