Hello fellow Farmgirls!
If you have been paying attention to the news lately with the green light of the GE Alfalfa seeds produced by Monsanto, you may be just as frustrated, or as angry as I am. I received this letter in my email box today: http://www.organicvalley.coop/newsroom/press-releases/details/article/we-stand-united-in-opposition-to-ge-alfalfa/?utm_source=ff&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ff110201
There is a link at the bottom of that letter to take you to the Organic Trade Association which has a form for you to send an email to the White House concerning this topic.
I believe the voice of the people needs to be heard loud and clear, and respectively please. If you have a couple of minutes to send a letter via email, that would be great.
But I had another thought as I can imagine the glut of emails their system must receive each and everyday from thousands of people talking on all sorts of subjects. This is where the farmgirls need to rise up with their creativity and passion and send a beautiful handwritten note to the President about our concerns about the direction of the bio-tech industry.
You all are amazing with mail art, swaps, scrappin' and beautifying envelopes and cards, maybe it's time to do the same for our campaign to stop the GMOs from taking over our beloved Organic lifestyle. I think it just might make some heads turn when they empty out the mailbags for the day.
So, how exactly do you go about writing a letter to the President? If you go here, you'll get instructions on the address, how to be polite and respectful: http://www.ehow.com/how_4561907_of-united-states-of-america.html
Remember, be polite, respectful, thoughtful, FACTUAL and gracious! Farmgirls it's time to shine and do something for our country, our land and our families!
Farmgirl Hugs,
April

I think that is a wonderful idea! I am going to work on a beautiful handwritten letter and embelish it and send it in. I hope other farmgirls will do the same thing.

I have signed a petition on www.fooddemocracynow.org. I think sending a beautiful handwritten note is a great idea!

I am already composing my letter in my mind!! I was very upset to read that my organic milk may no longer be considered "organic". Thank you for providing an outlet for my discontent!!

Thank you April for starting this thread. The minute we heard, MJF called the White House and wrote letters. |

I received an email from Stonyfield about this and there was a link to help you write a letter and send it in. We need to be heard on this!

I really admire you ladies.
Keep in mind though, how tone deaf most of Washington is. They could care less about what any of you say.
I hope someone listens. I really do.

My representatives website has the following important notice "Due to the increased security measures, all mail service to Congressional Offices is delayed due to security screening measures. Because of the procedures in place, the best way to contact me to share your opinion is via e-mail."

Thank you ladies for your concerns. My response to those valid points are this: 1. The United States people have been silent for too long thinking that their voice either doesn't matter or won't be heard. The reason for them not listening seems to be a sad statement of how we the people have allowed them for too long to not listen because we have been silent while big corporations have been throwing around money to get their voice heard. Should we continue to let the big Corp. Get their way because we have given up on our right to be heard? I say no. It's about time we stop having a whine fest and start being proactive in making our country for the people, by the people. 2. While there is a higher security for snail mail to get through, it isn't wasted. Every physical piece of mail that comes through is a visible reminder that there really are people out there that care enough about their country to take the time to write a physical letter. Also, your emails and phone calls do matter as well. If you are worried your mail won't get through security in a timely fashion, there's no reason why you can't email and phone too. Infact that might be the best. It's okay to contact them more than once. It's not like a petition where you sign your name once and are done (this is a good thing to do as well). So with that said, send your mail, email and make a call. Don't forget to also sign those important petitions too!
Ladies, you all are wonderful farmgirls! Keep praying for our country and doing your civic responsibility of being an active USA citizen! God Bless America!

You are right April it is time we stood up to be heard or at least let them know we are listening to what is going on in our country. They may not listen but it is our responsibility to do something and not let the opportunities pass by. We the people need to be more active in our gov't. which is supposed to be for the people by the people.

Boy, it's been a long time since I've made the time to get on the forum (I'm ashamed to say, something like a year!)... I too sent an email letter via the organic trade association website. I also posted it on my facebook page and hope more people will learn about this travesty and take action. I really like the idea of hand written letters and may do one of those myself... thanks for this post!
