One of these days I hope to do a bunch of travelling with my camper and was just wondering where your favorite camping spots are.

Hay Ya'll

Good morning Vicki, I'm in central Alabama and it is equal distance from home to go to the beach or the mountains. We usually end up in the mountains, thats the Great Smoky Mountains and true to their name they are great, oh so beautiful and they do look "smoky" the was the clouds/mist/air hangs over them and in the valleys. A real must see, we usually hang out in the Cherokee, N.C. area, it has some Native American culture and very peaceful. (I'm Cherokee, so maybe I'm prejudice)

We like our Gulf Coast and recently went to the Outer Banks in N.C. and it is a totally different beach. Ours is humid and really salty/sticky but the Atlantic is colder and not as sticky.

The South East is wonderful, we have a bit of it all, Mountains, Beach, Hills, Flats.....if you get down here give me a call and we can hang out.

Love and Prayers,
Your SISTER,
Daizy

Wyalusing State Park! I think I spelled that right. In the bluffs on the Mississippi River side of Wisconsin. Very beautiful and remote with lots of hiking and canoing trails.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Southwest Colorado-Every year I think I want to go somewhere different and we always end up in Colorado. We have camped in the National Forest around the area and have left our camp (tent) unattended all day and have never had anything stolen or vandalized.

Thanks Ladies! I am keeping a list of all of your favorite spots so I know where to go when I get to your areas. Daizy, I work for a Native American company and have learned so much about their culture over the last 12 years, it's amazing. I've been around quite a bit of the West, but not camping. I am so anxious to see the whole country!

One of our favorite places to go! We love it there. Swimming in the Ocibakyftee river, enjoying a picnic lunch there as well! it is so peaceful!

how far do you want to go to camp? We've camped at Bong Recreation Area in Wisconsin. Nice private campsites. don't go when there is a race going on at the track. It brings out quite the crowd - what I call amateur campers.

There are some really nice places along the Mississippi in Illinois. Mississippi Palasades, Tompson Causeway, just to name a few.

for me,,,,I just enjoy heading over to the "Bowl & Pitcher" at Riverside State Park in Spokane, WA. it is only about a 25 min tow from my house to the campgrounds....I luv parking my vintage trailer out facing the river,,,ahhh! I can almost hear the water flowing by just thinking about it.
My favorite time is about 5:30ish in the morning, just me, my mug of hot java and the beauty all around me.

Hi Vicky!
Now this is a post I can help with lol because we go camping all the time.
I've been all over the states camping.
But I think my favorite camping spot is probably up in the Porcupine Mountains in the Upper part of Michigan.
There is so much to see and do there. Lots of fun hiking too.

I would also suggest not going camping in Myrtal Beach South Carolina unless you have a camper. lol. We did that a few years ago in a tent and it was horrible. Far too hot and bugs and humidity. Though having the ocean right near was cool. :)

How cool! There's a link to this thread in the March Cluck, and I'm glad I found it! We go camping several times a year, usually two longer trips and several weekend closer trips. Here are a few of my favorite places to camp in the SE USA:

Skidaway Island State Park (GA) (http://www.gastateparks.org/SkidawayIsland) is a short 15 minute drive from downtown Savannah and all it has to offer!

Grayton Beach State Park (FL) (http://www.floridastateparks.org/graytonbeach/) Great beach campground! Not right on the beach, but very easy access, and the beach is gorgeous! We have kayaks and can take the kayaks across western lake, right up to the beach. We are going in just a couple of months - can't wait!

Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campground - (http://www.georgiamountainfairgrounds.com/campgrounds.php) On the hills overlooking Lake Chatuge. Great campground!

Hunting Island State Park (SC) (http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/park-finder/state-park/1019.aspx) Beautiful park, short walk from most of the campground to the ocean. Most of the war scenes from the movie Forrest Gump were filmed there.

Hope this helps! If I think of any more I'll let you know! Have fun!

If you ever get North, go to the Badlands (Theodore Roosevelt National Park) in North Dakota. It is the most beautiful and incredible experience we have ever had camping...we stayed in the South Unit outside of Medora, and buffalo walked past our tents ..... it was incredible ( I already said that didn't I?;) They have a refuge there for wild horses, hiking, trail riding, the Missouri River, buffalo and the town of Medora is an old west theatrical town...some have said the musical is kinda cheesy, but we liked it.

Now we live in Colorado, and I fell in love with the Leadville area for camping. The mountains are some of the highest in Colorado....they are called the Collegiate (sp) Peaks and we hiked halfway up Mt. Massive last year. I couldn't make it...got a severe case of altitude sickness and felt horrible...but it was another incredible experience. And we also went off roading through Mosquito Pass....let me tell you, the views were magnificient, but I am officially not an extreme off roading kind of girl. Dress warm for those altitudes as well, because even in summer, it is quite cold up there.

Enjoy your adventures...Erica

Hello,

I am a new "farmgirl" from AZ. We have the Mogollon Rim ("Mogeeyon") in northern AZ, which is beautiful! My favorite place for camping of allll time is the pacific norhtwest though! Of course I am a little weird, cause I love to camp in the rain! In AZ we go to the Rim every month sometimes twice a month to escape the heat.

Hope you guys have great time in Colorado, ND and where ever!!

Glacier and Yellowstone, even though they can be crowded at times - but it puts you so close to so much natural beauty. Also, close to home, Bell Bay on Lake Coeur d'Alene, Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston, Idaho, and Indian Creek campground in the Selway Wilderness.
