My poor mare is having a hard time with her cycles and I could buy the herbs online for about $10 a pound plus shipping, but before I give my money to an online dealer, I wonder if anyone here harvests raspberry leaves and preserves them? I assume they would have to be harvested fresh and dried in a dark environment for peak efficacy.
If you do this, let me know and if the price is competitive I would rather buy from a farmgirl than some unknown business!

Alee, Boy, hope she quiets down...I know how she feels!!! No help with that, but I have bought bulk herbs from the San Francisco Herb Co. They are also online and maybe you can check them out for pricing...Good luck to you and her....Debra

Hi Alee, I am so sorry to hear about your mare - I do not have horses but I understand that any of us who love our animals would do anything to comfort them.
I too use San Fran Herb Co and also Mountain Rose. There is another place called Glory Bee that my son and I purchased from but that has been a couple of years.
I know I use the raspberry leaves to promote milk production in my goats, sheep and llamas - what is the outcome for horses? If you are needing other herbal treatments I would be glad to do some digging - I have a couple of friends who do holistic medicines for horses.

Hi Grace- any advice would be great-
Raspberry leaves for horses and humans is supposed to help tone the female reproductive system and basically just make things run smoother. I know that for a while during the first trimester you should not take Raspberry leaves in humans as it can cause an increase in miscarriage (the system can get a bit too efficient in purging...) but it also can help get the body ready for delivery.
Basically Tala is cycling really hot, very agitated, needful and uncomfortable. She also bangs her hips incessantly when she is cycling...and she is quick cycling. So just when we start to relax, she revves up again. I want to avoid Black and Blue Cohosh due to some bad experiences with that herb.
