Oh SHerrye. I'm so sorry. But I know you did not mean to do that. It sounds like she'll be ok. I'd just keep her inside in a crate with some water and keep an eye on her tonight. Poor girl. She may be in shock. But it sounds like the gorund was soft enough to not have broken anything. I wish I could help you. I think just keeping her in a small area and not let her move too much will be good for her. And the water. But maybe someone else will know more. Please don't feel bad. It's not your fault. You could not have known she was under the tractor.

Sherry- I would check with your vet friend since some medicine that you might normally give like asprin might not be good in this situation since it thins the blood. I hope she is fine!

Sherry,
My DD who is a vet-tech says don't give her anything over the counter. She says there are a lot of dogs that she sees in her clinic that seemed fine so their owners didn't bring them in, only to be very ill or worse later on due to internal injuries. She thinks you should go to a vet and have her checked just to be sure. Let us know how she is doing.

thanks diane, i will call jake tonight. we shall see. i am too sick today and it would be after hours bill. i know it sounds harsh but money is really tight now. i ran over the yorkie when he was a baby. cost me 1500 well worth it. sorry to choose this way. she is a difficult dog has bitten my neighbor cant keep her in usually cant catch her up. she was abused and was a rescue. so i do have to pick my battles. i will call my friend jake the vet in am if she has breathing issues or is down. i am not heartless just have to go this route. i hope it does not sound horrible of me. she is running around tonight and ate and drank water and her milk. thanks sherrye

Hi Sherry,

Please don't feel bad. Our dog was hit by a car about 2 months ago. There is NO WAY I could afford a vet visit. I knew it was going to be $500 and up with x-rays and an exam. Her front leg was obviously injured. Since I did work for a vet for a few years, I was able to splint the leg from what I learned. Unfortunately, as you have heard, most OTC meds are not really safe for dogs, however, I alternated between Tylenol and aspirin. Tylenol, as with most of the NSAID drugs can cause serious internal bleeding, but I couldn't watch the poor dog suffer, either. But, I consulted some veterinary dosages online as well as some of the books I still have. Neither is preferable, but...

I watched her food intake and her poop/pee very carefully. I was only lucky that she didn't develop any serious after-effects.

Anyway, it's been 9 weeks and she is now using her leg and even running on it. It won't earn me Dog Mom of the Year award, but my reality is that I don't have several hundreds of dollars to spend on our dog.

I just talked to a girl the other day and she ran over a newborn goat with the truck. Fortunately, the ground was very soft with rain, and it just got up and ran away. Hope your pup is OK.

Sherrye, It was not your fault. With money tight for all of us you can't help but pick and choose what it gets used for. I think it will be ok. I have used essential oils on animals. Lavendar would keep her calm. I can look up others. I think she will be fine. Sounds like she has enough of a _ _ _ _ _ in her to get over it!
DO NOT BLAME YOUR SELF, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!!

I know it is expensive to go to the vet. I also know it was an accident. I did not mean anything bad, I just called my DD to see what you could give her for pain. I hope she is OK and that you are too.

I am glad she is doing OK. I just was worried that she was in pain. It is so hard to decide what to do in times like these. I am glad you did not get upset with me. I hope you and your doggy are doing fine today.

Oh my gosh, Sherry! You poor thing! Poor Sloopy! A good friend of mine had a similar experience when their dog suddenly ran out in front of their farm truck while out in the fields - it was very sad, and didn't end well. Sometimes these things just happen, but man, does it break your heart when they do! I'm so relieved to hear she's doing better, but I'll still be praying for Sloopy, because I know the farmgirls' prayers made all the difference for our girl's health! :) Hang in there - you love her, and you're doing everything you can to make her well, she knows that... and she loves you, too! Hugs, Nini

oh you guys i am crying. she is fine. it just shook me up more than i thought. i think i held it in till i knew she was gonna be ok. just the fact that she let me pick her up haul her on my lap WITH the yorkie coming home scared me. she does not let me touch her or pick her up. was WAY to abused before i got her. anyway. we will be ok this too shall pass. big days here. house money no work just like all the rest of america. so i shall go out now and walk in pasture with the animals. count my blessings and say thanks for sloopy and me. you are fine friends sherrye

Definitely have the dog seen by a vet. Our lab was chasing a bird one morning before school started, and ran right into the highway. A driver hit her and her hip was broken. She was not operated on, but given medications to keep her rested so she could heal. I had to watch over her to make sure she was not being active, which is hard with a very active dog. She also received antibiotics for infection.

I hope this helps. I am very sorry this happened to you and your pet. Hugs and prayers for healing.
