I've written a story on my blog that several people have encouraged me to try to get published in one of the farm mags. I've never submitted anything for publication before, so I wondered if anyone here could point me in the right direction...I'm clueless!

My DH has also written a book and he's in the same spot of not really knowing where to start. Hope you get some advice.

You need to check the submission guidelines of the magazine. There are usually in the beginning of the magazine somewhere. You can also check their website. Make sure you check every magazine you want to submit to, as they may be different from each other. Follow their formatting and rules. SASE by the way means self addressed stamped envelop. Most will require you to send one if that have you use snail mail. Many are now accepting email queries. They will tell you. I cant emphasize enough to look at the guideline because many (and this happens more with books) will not even look at it if you don't follow their wishes.
As for a book, that's another story. Agents usually come first for first-time writers. There are some good books in the library that he can check out about how to get published, but again, it's research. Check agent websites for their guidelines too.
Good luck, Laurie
