I am stumped. I have been asked about whether I can sew a european hem for someone on their dress pants. I don't know what that is. I googled but I haven't found any specific instruction that makes sense to me. Can anyone help. Thanks

I typed European hem into Metacrawler and ALL kinds of instruction pages came up. It appears to be something to shorten the length of jeans/pants without it looking like you did. Here are just a couple :-)

Thanks ladies. I will check these sites out. Marian I think you are right that its maybe called a french seam. I know how to do the french seam so now I will check with the client that asked me and see if that is what she is looking for.

Thanks for the links, Karen. I hadn't heard of the term before, either. It's not really a hem, it's a tuck on the inside that is trimmed away. After several washings, the raw edges will fray. It looks like a second class method with a fancy sounding name.
