I have an outdoor barn cat who is about a year old. I came out yesterday and found asmall hole in her left side, halfway between her front and back. It is the size of a large "bullet" hole. I had cats that had this before and i believe it is caused by a bore parasite??? I would prefer to not have to take her to the vet to have it removed, but am not sure what to do with it and how to get it out. I seem to remember hearing somewhere that they can't survive without air and putting vaseline over the hole makes them come out. Can anyone confirm this?? Any other home remedies before I call the vet tomorrow?? Thank you. Danielle

Sounds like a wolf. I don't know if that's the way to spell it or not. I make a paste with turmeric and aloe gel for all wounds on my animals and us. It works great and heals real fast. But as far as killing the parisite I don't know what to use for that. But the aloe and turmeric will heal the wound quick. It sounds like she is friendly so you can do something for her. Good luck. I hope someone else has some ideas for you. I know what you mean about the vets.

They really need to be removed in one piece. I do not know about home removal other than they will eventually leave the wound after a total of 30 days.
It could also just be an abcess which has opened and drained.
Either way, it should be flushed with sterile saline and then you can treat it with a topical antibiotic ointment.
If you took her to the vet, they'd probably:
Sedate her, remove the maggot by slightly enlarging the wound with a scalpel (if that's what it is), flush the wound with saline and possibly an antiseptic cleanser, then send her some with oral antibiotics.

Kathryn, I don't have an exact measurement. I just do about half and half til it's like a paste that will stay on the wound. You don't want it too wet or too dry. I swear by this stuff too. It really works. My husband had a diabetic ulcer on his foot that would not heal. I found out about this and put it on his wound and within days it was healed. And the same with animals. It works.

Could be a warble. Typically though they like the neck area. Could have been an abcess or even an old puncture wound. See if you can express anything out of the wound if she'll let you and look around with tweezers, again, if she'll let you. As far as wound treatment, keep it clean and flushed. Look for any dead tissue around the opening. You'll need good fresh tissue for it to heal well and close. See if the vet can give you any Amoxicillin or Clavamox without seeing her. Or maybe a shot of long or short acting Penicillin.

Yep, definitely a warble. Thanks. That's what I thought it was, just forgot the name. And I found a youtube video that talks about the vaseline, but then you still havT to extract the thing with tweezers. I looked at it today and it looks better and smaller. the wound is very clean and closing up. My gut feeling is that I found it after the warble came out and it's in the process of healing. I thought of putting stuff on it, but after seeing it today I think I am going to let the cat deal with it on her own. Looks like she is keeping it perfectly clean and it's healing well without intervention. Thanks again. Danielle
