I just finished my first pot holder (crocheted), and it measures about 11 inches. It's huge? I have crocheted sets that my grandmother made, that are regular sized (about 7-8 inch square). Are most patterns this generous, and should I just be making the patterns smaller? The one I made does not require a ring for hanging either. It's nice because you don't have to reach for 2 hot pads, but just wondered if people will like these for next Christmas?

Maybe use a different gauge yarn? And no not all of them are that big, try another pattern :)

Hi Kristina. This could also be due to the tension you apply when crocheting or the size of your hook. I tend to be a "tight" crocheter. My stuff is usually smaller than the pattern, so I practice "trying" to lighten up, but I also use a bigger hook. You may find you need to use a smaller hook if you are a loose crocheter. (pardon the pun). I am in the process of teaching myself and I pick a lot of brains when I find out some one knows crochet. I also love books, and I have purchased several crochet books to help myself. Good luck.

Nice Kristina. I agree with Melody. Try a smaller hook.
