Oh Jewel...My prayers continue for your little angel and your family. How frightening. God is in control and will be at your side. Jewel, this must be terrible for your daughter and all of you to go through. I pray that there are answers soon and that they can help her quickly. You are all in my thoughts.

Update #2:
Presently, we're in ICU. Amy had an angiogram under general anesthesia done yesterday which gave a clearer picture of things. They decided not to do the TEE. After many more tests, including duplicate ones, Amy has a slight blockage in her main artery in her neck as well as larger blockages on her left side of the brain which is blocking blood flow to her right side of the brain. This is what's causing the strokes and the "mini" stroke behavior. Due to her age, her body is bouncing back with resiliency. But it's a tick time bomb because the docs don't know when another obstruction will come into play or the existing ones will grow and if/when she has another stroke, if it will cause permanent damage or worse.
The initial diagnosis by the specialist doctor who is *not* a neurologist is "moyamoya" a rare disease that afflicts primarily the Asian community. There's no cure, but rather a "treatment" which sounds like brain surgery. Some of the methods of controlling the blockages that exist now are more serious than others but we'll have more definitive answers when I speak with both the pediatric neurologist, pediatric neuro surgeon, and adult neuro doc.
Amy had a rough day yesterday with mini strokes and they kept her off of food all day as the procedures requiring general anesthesia kept changing. She's got a small fever today.

I've been thinking of you and your family all weekend long. I don't check in very much when not at the office, so I'm just now reading these updates--Jewel, I'm so sorry that this little girl of yours is dealing with this. It must be just awful to simply not be able to make it all go away.

Update #3:
t's been a busy day meeting w/neuro surgeons & neurologists, etc. Basically, Amy is not having surgery today or Tuesday. It's going to be rescheduled for approx 2-3 wks from now. The reason is that she has brain swelling from the strokes she's had & it's too strong of a risk to do it at this time. Also, they're trying to work with finding the right dosage for her anticoagulant so her body will be able to adjust to the shots she'll have to have at home. Tomorrow we'll see how her body does on this new medicine and if she doesn't have another stroke, they'll send her home with a neuro plan for us to work with the Bend neuro team until we need to come back after she's had her swelling managed and decreased. So that's all we know at this point. It was an unexpected change of plans and makes things a bit scary as she could stroke at any time and then we're back to square one again. So, if all goes well, it looks like we'll be back to Bend temporarily either tomorrow or Wednesday. Thank you for the prayers and support. We sure appreciate them!

Jewel...Amy and your family continue in my prayers. Look on the bright side of this situation. If she wasn't stable enough to go home they wouldn't have been able to discharge her home. The anticoagulants should prevent further events. It is such a frightening situation but with God in control and all of us praying, you are surrounded by His presence. Lord,we call on all Amy and Jewel's Angels to surround them with their all encompassing protection as they walk this unknown journey. Only you know the ending to this story and we pray for you healing hand to do your will. Not ours but yours. We thank You in advance for your Blessings.
