I am making just about everything this year. I have had it with spending money on gifts and then never seeing them again. I am getting the 3 grands guitars though. Everything else will be either made by me or bought from someone else who has made it.

IF I would give gifts they would be handmade :) I did make some cookies and chocolate on a stick for the bible study group yesterday...turned out real good, esp. the cookies yummm. Half of the group was not there so i got to take most cookies home ...bummer (NOT)

I tend to make cookies galore and, when I have time, I build recipe boxes, cutting boards and Shaker boxes. This year is more of a cookie year but we'll see how I do in the workshop this coming weekend.
If I think ahead well enough, I occasionally knit a sweater, a pair of socks or a scarf.
I hope to learn to sew (to use my sewing machine) in the coming year. I'd like to make Maine balsam pillows as gifts next year. They smell soooo nice! It's a good and simple goal for me, I think.
I also buy things---but I am growing weary of that.
This year I am doing my fair share of re-gifting too.
But I love giving handmade gifts best of all...

At times I wonder if I make gifts to satisfy myself, lots of time, I don't save much money by the time I buy all the ingredients or materials. We buy gifts too. I know my 15 year old grandson and 12 yr old granddaughter would probably be very disappointed if I just gave them the knitted wool hats, mittens, and socks. But I get alots of self satisfaction when I think I am doing something to keep them warm.
I make cookies, candies for the mailman, co-workers, friends, neighbors etc.
When the two oldest grandchildren were young I always tried to get them involved in making things for gifts and they seemed to be very pleased with giving their handmade gifts. We spent time in the kitchen and they helped stir or crack eggs or helping package the cookies and candies.
I guess when my children were young, I felt like an elf, busy and doing things for my children. One year I couldn't get the cabbage patch dolls for the girls so I made them cabbage patch dolls and they were very happy with them. I also sewed little dresses and doll clothes.

Definitely. I've given jeans quilts, t-shirt quilts, purses, candles and all kinds of stuff. I've saved a lot of money by working on things throughout the year, and using all those 40-50% off coupons I get from Michaels, JoAnne's and Hobby Lobby.

I made a few quilts for my brother, and grandparents, a braided rug for my mother, and homemade Kahlua, blackberry syrup, strawberry-huckleberry jam, pickled salmon and smoked salmon for the rest of the family and friends. It's been fun.

| For severals years I made most of the presents I gave to family and friends. Unfortunately, it became obvious that most of them would have preferred something that I bought. It really bummed me out! and kind of killed my craftiness. I like to make things, but I run out of ideas for using them once they're made if I'm not gifting them. I made homemade soap, lotion and lip balm, various Christmas ornaments and decorations, placements and pot holders,beaded keychains. I still bake goodies and make candy at Christmas. That's one thing most of the folks seem to like to get. |

I make as many of the gifts we give as possible. I knitted lots of socks, lots of hats, dishcloths, bibs and scarves this year and made a blanket and pillow set for my mom (wool fleece with blanket stitch around edge) and I taught myself with a kit to make a little horsehair basket necklace with an acorn cap base as well. WE always do baked goods and stuff too. We make cheeseballs for neighbor gifts every year (about 25) and I give home canned stuff. I always send my uncle in Colorado a large flat rate box filled with pickles and jams and stuff. He loves it.We still do buy gifts (books and teenager things) but even my kids enjoy new hats and mittens for Christmas. Oh..I always every year make matching pajamas for my kids to open on Christmas eve. That is all I have left to make this year unless I make some little extras like headbands or like that with extra time. I knitted a dishcloth tonight during a 2 hour (!) middle school Christmas concert. I don't give home made gifts to anyone that I KNOW won't appreciate them. Most of my family does though..and that is sure nice.

One year I made baskets and filled them with homemade goodies, jams, candies, cookies and gave to neighbor and friends.
I made fleece throws for my family last year. I had planned to weave a rug for everyone but due to the summer we had and the lack of time, I have made that my goal for next year.

I try and always have stuff canned for gifts - this summer was crazy for a variety of reasons so I didn't get one bit of canning done, however, I had raspberries and blackberries in the freezer so I made jam this last week, plus tried an Indonesian Peanut Satay recipe, so that will be gifts for Aunts, Uncles and cousins. I had grand plans for knitting everyone gifts but thanks to the aforementioned craziness I am still working on the first project I started in June - I guess that makes me way ahead for next year.

I have been making homemade gifts for several years. Started off with lots of cookies in tins, but nowadays, I have been giving out preserves/jellies/jams that I make. I also have been doing some sewing and crocheting lately, too.
I let my daughter draw a picture of a bear, and I used that as a sewing pattern and made her a bear out of some leftover fabric. She absolutely loved it! :)

| As long as I make food, they are happy. But when I made scarves for every one. They were only polar fleece, but it was all the money I had and time. They werent real thrilled. Like why bother. But several of them have been seen wearing them. I do make baby quilts when new ones come into this world. I think eventually they will grow up and they will apprecitate what is made. One Day, I can only hope. |

OH YES!!!! I have made new pajamas for the Grandchildren for years, still do, they open their presents and then put them right on and play the whole day in them...they LOVE it!

I made family trees (idea from the blog "Sutton Grace") for my husband's family this year. Not much was ever known about his mother's father's side of the family. After she passed away from Alzheimers this past year, I did some research and I was able to find out quite a bit about that part of the tree. I think everyone really liked it--I know my husband did.

YES... i try to make one handmade gift for each of my children each year. Now that most of them are just about grown I stick with things that fit the moment..ie: golf club covers for my son who took up golf, levi purse from old jeans with embellishments, embroidery, beads etc on it, oh and the annual dozen dishcloths for each sister(an yearly request).

The past two years I made most of my Christmas presents for my family. My brother got a sports team fleece blanket and coasters with a map of the fishing area the men in the family have been going to for the last 80+years. I made my sister an appliqued tote and fleece hat and a necklace using beads from some of our nana's and my old costume jewelry. My mom has received a heart-healthy cookbook (after her heart attack) and I made my dad a fishing pole bookmark out of an old crochet needle and metal bobbin. I even tied my own fly for that one! I love figuring out exactly what each person will like and trying to create a gift around it.

Always! Some are surprised and others anticipate the surprise of what I made just for them "this year"
For those who do not appreciate the gift of something handmade just for them, well, they receive baked goodies in the future as my handmade gift.
