All of my wonderful farmgirl friends keep sending me cards and packages and I feel so bad because I'm pinching my pennies and can't afford to send everyone packages back and I feel that sending a card just isn't enough. What would/do you guys do?! Hugs, Hannah

Oh, Hannah! Please don't think like that or feel that way! When a person gives a gift, it's out of love, not out of the hope of the gift being reciprocated. Gifts are meant to bring smiles and joy - they don't come with expectations. (If they did, then what they give wouldn't be a gift, right?) You are a very loved, very special young lady. It gives people joy to celebrate having you in their lives, so naturally they want to tell you, and maybe even send a little something special every now and then. By all means, girl, enjoy it! Embrace and celebrate how so many of your farmgirl sisters love you! (Me included!) That's a wonderful thing! :) - Nini

Just say Thank You! No body here expects anything in return. It is just fun to give, especially to someone like you, who really appreciates it.

Hannah, I am in the same boat right now. I have not even thought about sending cards. I did get one from you today. And I have gotten a few others from some of the farmgirls here. It is si nice to be thought of. It really lifts my spirits. I am just poor right now. Hubby's a truck driver. Anyway, don't feel bad at all. We all love you. And Diane's right.

Sometimes it isn't about money! You can be creative and thoughtful without spending alot. For instance, a farmgirl might collect buttons and a few packaged up with care would delight her. Or you may own something and not need/want it anymore that would be of value to another. A hand written poem ... favorite recipe ... bits of old lace or trim. Put your thinking cap on and get in the game. It'll boost your self esteem! |

I agree with what everyone else said! I have been on both sides of this, there have been times when I had not two pennies to rub together, and other times when things were rather abundant. Luckily I have the attitude that if I can't afford it, it doesn't happen. And when I do have the $$ or time or whatever, I get to spoil those I love. We would all like to have more, no matter what we have - but that's not reality LOL. I just do what I can, when I can. It's not tit for tat through life, but overall with the right attitude I think we all give more than we receive. So when you don't have it to give, enjoy the receiving! I used to be real bad about that, I hated asking folk for help or just accepting what they offered. Took me years to realize that they were enjoying the same feeling I get when I help them and I had no right to deprive them of that. Sounds silly but it's true! It's easier for me now but I still like to do more for others than let them do for me. It can be a true art to graciously accept when you wish you were giving, but I think it's really an important life skill. I really believe humans are hard wired to need to do for others as much as have done for them.

I agree, I have received some cards from Farmsisters. It is so nice to get them eventhough I too can't send back (this year, hope next year I can)

All of you are so awesome and amazing!
Karla, Thank you so much for praying for me! You are so sweet and thoughtful!
Annika, you always manage to make me smile! I will send you my address asap but I'll need yours too! :)
Nini, you are so right! Thank you!!
Diane, you are the best! I really, truly appreciate all the cards and packages. They make my day so much brighter!
Kristin, Please, please don't feel like you have to send me something back. You have blessed me so much with your friendship and that is enough for me. :)
Anna, I love your ideas! Thank you so much for sharing them with me!
Catherine, I agree! When ever I have an abundance I try to share it with everyone. :) Thank you for posting!
Marian, I feel so sick that I haven't sent you your package yet. It's been a long time since I said I would mail it. Truth is money is tight for me but I'm looking for a job so hopefully soon. I'm so sorry dear friend that I haven't kept my word. Please forgive me.
Liz, Thank you! I just feel so guilty when I recive something. I'll work on it. :)
Thank you all again so much! Hugs, Hannah

Hannah - During my morning devotions today, while I was praying for you, the Lord impressed upon me that He gave us the greatest gift of all in His Son, Jesus Christ. God doesn't ask for anything from us in return, just that we accept his Gift! We love you dear one!

urban chickie,
Just happened to see you here. I sent you an email. Received a card from you. What a nice surprise! thank you.
I agree with all everyone has said. I think the majority of farmgirls here are not here to "receive". We are here to give, mostly. As women, we naturally nurture. I often think of a quote that Oprah uses via Maya Angelou " When you know better, you do better." In some cases it isn't a question of knowing, it is a question of being able- be it monitarilly(sp? ,) psycologically or in having the time. I have neglected my Farmgirls sisters in the RAOK group. I have had too many irons in the fire the past several months but things are slowing down a bit and I will catch up.
And so to Maggie, let everyone nurture you now. When you are in a better place, and feel you can, then you can nurture another. Keep your head up Framgirl! Enjoy a little TLC.

Please realize when someone gives, be if financially, of their time, or efforts, it is their blessing to be fortunate enough to be able to do so..... please don't ever feel bad or not accept when someone offers any of the above, you could be stealing their blessing from them. I learned the true meaning of "it is better to give than receive". We as women find it hard to "receive" because we are such givers. Remember when someone gives, it is their blessing to be able to do so..... |
